GetResponse very high bounce rates

This big problem has existed for a long time. The GetResponse support is really a mess.

High email bounce rates can depend on a other factors. what is the source of leads? Are you using single or double optin? If you are using single optins, it could be that you've got a lot of invalid email addresses. The list was never double opted-in, so invalid email addresses are in the list.

This could represent hard and soft bounces, and a bunch of deferrals due to temp blocks from specific TLD's that you might be mailing.

You could also be mailing on a shared ip range that is getting beat up by someone else using it.

A high bounce rate may be due to 1 of 2 reasons

      1. Hard bounces. These are bad email addresses in your existing lists. This might indicate you need to properly clean your list and get rid of all bad email addresses that dont exist any more or are already expired. But a good email service should be able to take care of that for you by regularly removing bounces from your account.

      2. Soft bounces, there can be many reasons for soft bounces. One of them is IP address of your email service is blocked by ISPs like gmail, yahoo, hotmail. Does GR give you reasons for soft bounces? if so, you can get pretty good idea about what is happening with your bounces and why you are getting rejected.

Bounces can happen if your listed return email address is a gmail, hotmail, etc. Using a domain email address should help reduce bounces.

    Hi there!

I'm very sorry for the trouble! Our Deliverability team should be able to diagnose the reason for the bounces and try to resolve it with you. Have you reached out to: gr-compliance@cs.getresponse.com regarding this? If so, could you send me a private message with your account's information and I will be sure to escalate it to the team and ensure you get the information you need.

    Thanks!

Hi Abby, I have this problems for months! Contacted support many times. They only make promises.

I have heard many times that "Our Deliverability team should be able to diagnose the reason for the bounces and try to resolve it with you." Please, take serieously this issue.

It is not a matter of talk nice or making empty promises.

        Hi there,

Again I do apologize and we never intend to make any false promises. I do know indeed many users have had issues with the soft bounces, but also have seen our Deliverability Team work with customers personally with the email client that the soft bounces are coming from to try and ensure that the situation improves. I do 100% promise you that if you could let me know your account's login (email address/username) I will personally contact the team on your behalf internally and ask that they do a formal investigation into your account and go to bat for you with the email provider where the bounces are happening.

        Thanks,

Once upon I was with Get response for a short time. Due to their bounce rate I leave from that tool. Now I use mail chimp, its bounce rate so low then that Get Response. Its easy & friendly then Get response. Its Deliverability, Open rate as well as click rate also more better then Get response.

      Thanks.

I had this same exact issue with almost the identical bounce rate. I checked with GR and they said they where having issues with soft bounces and were working on them. They did not act as it was their internal problem but think it probably was and will be watching close this week. Hopefully they get this worked out asap.

Most of the time, the main reason why you get so many bounces is because of the quality of leads that you generate.

If you are making sales when emailing your subscribers, don't worry too much about the bounces, unsubscribers, and complaints that you get.

Many companies believe that providing customer support is just about talk nice but not solve their problems. They only take the problem seriously when the matter is made public.

Abby, nicely said "contact support", but I have done many times and I'm tired of doing it for nothing. Do not you know the problems you have? Many GR users have these problems. Just search here in WF to see.

Im a GR customer for + 3 years and I am deciding to move to Aweber or ActiveCampaign. Any advice?

Hi talfighel, thanks for your words. This is a GR exclusive problem. Many users are experiencing these problems cyclically. A GR support person told me by private that it was a GR problem with hotmail bounces.

As I mentioned above - hotmail or any free email service should not be used as the email address tied to an auto responder campaign. A domain email address should be used. This way the emails being sent out will not be considered spam and they will be much less likely to bounce.

I do not believe it is an GR issue at all. Every autoresponder will have this happen if the campaign is not set up correctly.

Not exactly on topic about bounces, but...

I've been noticing too that GR been very slow with fixing their issues.

For example if you run your message through spam score and you will see:
Contains an URL listed in the URIBL greylist 1.1

Meaning GR on a grey list in URIBL. And I've been seeing this message for at least last 6 months, and anytime I ask they keep telling they're working on it.

For god sake, for how long. Something like that, for me the end user might mean a difference between emails going into jank folder or inbox.

Hey guys, just reporting on my problems as well.

Went from under 2% bounce rate to over 33% bounce rate in 24 hours.

Nothing was added to my account, no changes made nothing....

So it has nothing to do with the quality of the emails in my account.

All the bounces are reporting as soft, however without GR reporting what type of soft bounce there is nothing I can do.

I cant tell if it is the sending email, the email content, the sending IPs, ETC.

GR needs to be more open about whats going on.

Customer support has not helped one bit, and at this point I am on my way to migrate to Aweber.

Tekwize, you'll have exactly what happened to me. My soft bouce rate round +50%. The support is disastrous. They say that it is my fault, but they cant explain how it happened from one day to the other with the same list and same contacts.

    I'm tired of this company.

Im moving my lists to aWeber and I recommend you do the same.

Funny thing is I wrote in this post and week later got hit with the same issue. Same as with everyone here, just an overnight change for no apparent reason.

Such a shame, I used to like them a lot and advice them to everyone.

Currently moved away from GR, enough is enough.

Best part is support told me it's low quality emails.

How is nearly 50% open rate considered low quality ?

I have a feeling someone was able to import a massive list to GR and smashed their ip reputation.

Same thing here guys... jumped from a typical .9 - 1.0 up to 16%+ in a single day, no changes to anything, my list is all buyers, highly responsive, domain email.. etc.

It's definitely internal but may not be GR's fault completely rather some emails services that are bouncing from GR. When this kind of thing happens.. GR has to contact those companies and work the issue out with them to get that deliverability back.

Still a big pain in the ass.

You are a luky guy! My soft bounce rate is +50%, all same of you: my list is all buyers, highly responsive, domain email,. etc.

It seems that GR guys and their support team works for aWeber

NOTE: open rate is 0% because we sent a text message and these can not measure the rate of opening.

Yeah use it and see if its your sending ip which it most likely is and something GR has control over but dont ask them to put you on a different ip range with better senderscore cause thats not gonna happen.

I have been happy with GR but am seeing a HUGE decline in their service. I have ran several test and tons of their emails go straight to SPAM. This seems to be a big problem with GR at the moment and disastrous for anyone running an email campaign. And, like OP all I got from customer service were some articles to read (6 to be exact) to try to figure out why so many of my emails are hitting SPAM. I have sent plain text with no URLs and benign subject and body to several different emails to test and an unacceptable amount are not even seen. I am about 3 seconds away from finding another provider if GR can't get its act together. I spend way too much time, money, and effort for most of it to go to SPAM. Just my experience as of late and my 2 cents. Sorry for the rant.

GetResponse (links and IPs) was black/grey listed in April. That's where most of these issues are coming from. Abby - any idea when this will be resolved? I have a number of clients who use GetResponse and all of them saw these issues arise about the same time. After a little investigating we were able to find out the cause...

      Hi there,

Sorry for my delay in response!

I do have an official report from our Compliance Team regarding this. They manage all of GetResponse's deliverability and are in frequent contact with all email marketing governing / policy bodies:

The nature of greylisting is based on a business model, not spammy
activity originating from the email infrastructure and should not
effect deliverability of your emails. It is the result of allowing
customers to import their mailing lists in big chunks without
requiring additional confirmation proces. URIBL Grey holds
record of many bulk senders, i.e. major ESPs.

URIBL itself does not recommend basing email filtering on their
Grey List as it contains many false positives. Well configured
email filters do not filter out messages originating from GetResponse
based on greylisting of getresponse.com domain. This is because
URIBL Grey is not included by default in filtering processes and
is merely an indicator that email originated from bulk sender
      infrastructure.

As mentioned above, URIBL greylisting should not affect
deliverability of your emails. If you do have any other
questions about this or any other matter, please feel free
to contact our Compliance Team directly: gr-compliance@cs.getresponse.com.

Again I understand you all may be looking for more exact specifics,
and I'd recommend then to reach out to the Compliance team via
the above email address personally to receive personal, specific
information about each of your mailings.

      Thanks for reaching out,

I am having a similar issue.

From all of my testing, I think that there are certain sending servers which are problematic for Get Response.

Anyone who has this bounce issue, please take a look at the source of an email that has come from your Get Response list.

    See if the sender is
    mta-78.delta.getresponse.com

It should be about 4 lines down in the email source and say:
    Received: from mta-78.delta.getresponse.com

I have a shared account with another marketer and it is from a different sending server and has no bounce issues. I just want to try and find a commonality.

GetResponse HAS very high bounce rates.

I use AWeber for many years, but I planned to move all my campaigns to GetResponse. Put a lot of work into it, because at first glance everybody said "AWeber and GetResponse have the same quality of service".

This is NOT true. In my experience GetResponse has some very serious deliverability problems. To give an example: today the same broadcast/newsletter to the same kind of leads had:

      - AWeber 4 % bounce rate,
      - GetResponse 25 % bounce rate.

Thats a difference. Wow. And this is not the first incident. I had other problems the weeks before when I realized that GetResponse did not inbox one of my most important Autoresponders to all the mail addresses that are hosted with one of the biggest Providers here in Germany.

Unfortunately, I found this thread too late and had a lot of useless work with GetResponse. Now I will stay with AWeber or try another service.

I was having high bounces rates as well so I contacted support. They told me they had "tweaked" a few things and that all should be ok. When I asked them why they had to tweak anything, they replied that the majority of the bounces come from Microsoft domains.

Still hadn't really answered any question so I left and went to Convertkit. Not as many features, as far as templates, landing pages etc. but great tagging and segmenting features.

I use GetResponse and have NEVER had a bounce rate like that! Maybe one or two here and there.

How did you get your leads?

Have you previously had good delivery rates with the same list?

How long have you had this list? Were they all double opt in?

This is difficult to account for without more info.

Have you contacted GR? They have 24/7 live chat and are good about resolving technical issues.

They only offer us information about the hard bounces, not the soft bounces. I will be moving my client over to Aweber. It makes no sense to use their service if I can't get the message to the mailing list and only have them blame us for it.
