free WP auto-sequence email plugin?

hey there guys...

I was wondering if you know about any free wordpress plugin that I could use to automate an e-mail sequence.

I tried mailchimp before and noticed that my mailing would go under "promotions" tab on gmail signups and would not show up at hotmail accounts..

Now I tried something else ( also more cost effective): I will create a custom email account under my domain ( andreloureiro.com.br) and then I set it to an autoresponse. so it just like this:

1 - prospect sees some offer and is invited to send me an email to xxxx@somedomain.com
2 - he gets an automatic reply, explaining how the mini course will be delivered ( and I believe it clears my communication channel with the user's mail service)
3 - prospect email is put into an auto-reponder app and he gets 5-6 messages every morning, from the same email he messaged to.

It's working great now... I asked some hotmail users to email me and after sometime ( which varies from a couple of minutes or a couple of hours ) they get a "RE: [subject they sent]" email with the auto-reply i mention at step 2.

now, do you guys know about some simple free php script or app that could run everyday and send the messages from my domain? I intend to make it run periodically with a cron job.

I believe that the only settings I would need will be:

a) set the number of messages and frequency of delivery.
a.1) set up email subject and body
b) set the number of max emails that can be sent every time ( so that it would not send more than 40 or 50 emails every 30 min.)

any ideas?

regards

I'd recommend to stay away from WP email marketing plugins. Go with a dedicated service. MailChimp is free, so if you haven't already, you should check them out.

There's a lot of behind-the-scene factors that you might not want to use a Wordpress plugin for your email marketing. First, if you have shared hosting, there's a good chance that they limit the amount of emails you can send. Also, the big email marketing services do a much better job at making sure your emails make it to the inbox. (not that they always do.) I can see there being a lot of spam problems when using a Wordpress plugin.

Edit: I see that you have tried MailChimp. Google is pretty smart about choosing what email goes in the promotion tab. I don't think a Wordpress plugin would be much different. I'm following this course now and it talks about how small changes in your email copy/subject can effect whether you get inboxed or not. So that could also be your problem with MailChimp.

I use mailpoet plugin. Mailpoet plugin is free to use and also it is effective. It has many options as you need. Like hourly newsletters and many more feathers. You can active many options. I think you should start using that, you will love it.

I personally don't think it's a good idea to use WP auto-sequence plugin as your email marketing service since you may cost a lot of time to find potential issues like what if my deliverability is low? Why the bounce rate of my subscribers is so high? Why does the plugin suddenly shutdown to work after upgrading?

And even if you got them all, there won't be reliable supports and the issue will still exist for a long time or you can solve it yourself efficiently.

Although in my thought it may be a free service that's considered as a trial, it's even easier that you find an autoresponder service that costs you around $15 a month which will bring you nice experience of paid service and you can later cancel their service if you think that's not worthy than the free service.

      Hope this help,

      - Ray
