Does anyone know of good alternatives to the Sony Vegas Pro software

The cost of SVP is more than what I want to spend. I want to use it for making Youtube videos.

Get Vegas 9 standard. I've seen it selling for as low as $25 on Ebay
    and discount sites.

There are some alternatives out there, but a couple of questions for you.

What type of videos are you wanting to create?
    • Edited live action shots?
    • Converted powerpoint videos?
    • Screencast or instructional videos?

Also, what is your budget? There are several levels to Sony Vegas that are much cheaper that the Pro version (several options under $100).

Another title to try is Adobe Premiere Elements. It's ok for simple editing and movie making.

And don't forget windows live movie maker. Simple, but it works and its free.

There are a lot of options and I will be glad to help. Just need to know what kind of videos you are wanting to make.

I want to make 3-4 minute videos. I want to combine clips from other videos I have and make a "trailer" if you will.

      I hope that makes sense.

      My budget is $100-MAX

      thanks Darren

Then you probably only need Windows Movie Maker which is free and already on your computer if you have a Windows PC.

I have Camtasia Studio 6 which I use, but if I was starting over I would use Windows Movie Maker. In fact there are some features in Windows Movie Maker that are better than the similar features in Camtasia Studio.

Only downside of Windows Movie Maker is that it does do screen recording, but You can get a free copy of Cam Studio to do the recording and then edit in Windows Movie Maker. This way you have a completely free solution.

          Sunnygal,

I will not be doing any screen recording.

Then I think you just need Windows Movie Maker - and it's free.

I had always just ignored it, but I was on a webinar a few weeks ago and saw it being used, and actually liked it more than Camtasia Studio which I have been using for several years.

One of the least mentioned and most underrated editing programs for the PC user is VideoStudio Pro X3 from Corel. I have owned the last 3 updates and this latest one is excellent IMHO.

Video Editing Software ? Corel VideoStudio Pro X3

Agreed. This is an awesome video editing app that renders video faster than anything I've seen thus far, including full blown Adobe Premiere.

Looks like some good suggestions. I have not tried Corel's video editor, but their other graphic programs are great.

Also, there are free trials for all of these. Try 'em out see which one suits you the best.

(I would add that the easiest editor I have found so far is iMovie for the Mac. Have not found anything nearly as intuitive for the PC yet, but maybe someday soon).

I was going to use WMM but I got a message stating I need to install the codec, i did that and I am still unable to use it.

One thing I do not want to do is spend more time trying to learn something than I do taking action. It seems to be what's happening.

I want a software I can install "out of the box" and use with out installing other stuff or some steep learning curve.

You can waste hours doing nothing.

              Time is money.

You can get Sony Vegas Movie Studio. You can down load trial versions for free of all vegas. They have a 30 day trial. After trial Sony Vegas Movie Studio is only $40. I have been messing around with Movie studio and it is fine for simple videos like your talking about. The movie studio version is just like the full version pretty much but offers less video and audio tracks for editing. I am actually making my first short movie with Sony Vegas Movie Studio.
