I am in the process of making some videos for an autoresponder series. They will feature me, in my white coat and stethoscope, educating and selling.

I need to buy a camera for this purpose. I've seen lots of cameras out there with a huge difference in prices between them. I don't need something fancy. I'm going to make lots of youtube videos that feature me talking. That's all. So what I need is good quality video and good quality audio. I'm not making fancy movies so I don't think the $2000 camera that is the same one they use to film hollywood movies is right for me (that is what a guy at best buy tried to sell me!).

Anyone have any recommendations? Trying to figure out which one will have good audio quality is the trickiest for me right now. Any advice would be appreciated.

Also: low priced lights and a low priced background? Anyone have an idea?

For my purposes, I found the Kodak Zi8 to be perfect. It has a USB connection, will output .mov files, and has provisions for an external mike.

So far, I've uploaded maybe 10 videos to YouTube with no editing, and with no problems.

For an inexpensive camera that will take both stills and video, it has worked out well for me. And it is small enough that I can carry it in my shirt pocket.

I also would recommend the Zi8. Inexpensive and gets the job done for YOUR purpose. Also consider getting an external microphone for better audio quality. The Zi8 has an extension for that which is awesome for the price of the camera. P.S. a friend and I bought a green screen and softlights from eBay for dirt cheap. I forgot how much, but i believe it was less than 150. If you set up a green screen, get the wrinkles out. And if you use the softlights, set one on the left side and one on the right side, about 7 ft away from the screen. Then turn them diagonally toward the green screen. Distance depends on where you are recording though. (Sorry i cant help more on that part.) Putting the soft lights in that position takes away the UNnecessary shadow in the back haha. Have at it fellow warrior!! Cheers.

Another vote for Zi8. It's great! You can get a green screen background and lights pretty reasonable from amazon or ebay. Something like this:

Another vote for the kodak Zi 8. It's a rockstar for a low end camera. I bought a sony external mic from amazon that works perfect.

I don't think that the flip even compares to the kodak.

We use a Zi8, on a stand and the external clip on mic. We purchased some black cloth and used that as a background, it is placed in the shape of a square "U" this way the background has sides as well, in the center of the background is a white grease board, we also have some bar style stools we can sit on if we choose.

Lighting was very cheap to get, I just went to a lighting company that provides bands and stage equipment and bought some small used lighting and accessories.

Looks very professional.

I like the idea of a green screen, going to add that now.
