Suggest email list management service (besides aweber)

I have a client who wants to change email management providers. He has a list of over 15,000 in the business measurements & roi niche. He needs to be able to import his existing list into a new service, looking for ease of use (receptionist has to be able to copy&paste content) as well as competitive rates. Any companies I should check out?

Thanks!

Mail chimp is nice, especially for price. My new favorite instead of aweber though is GetResponse. It has a great ui, tracking analytics and would be easy for his receptionist to fire off html newsletters with it's WYSIWYG input.

I guess I have some biases against mail-chimp (probably just from the feedback here at the forum). But I'll have to put them aside and take a look at what they have to offer. Thanks for your suggestions I'll check them both out.

The company I work for uses emailvision but in all honesty it isn't great and I think it's actually more expensive than Aweber.

And what kind of features is he looking for (apart from the ones that he mentioned)? Every list provider has different features. For example, I've been using Imnica recently and you can even segment depending on the subscriber's cellphone!
It's not the cost of Aweber it's just that he needs to be able to import his list into a new service. Aweber won't allow you to do that as far as I know.

Cost isn't a big issue but I don't want to recommend some smaller company that's charging higher prices unless they can justify the extra spend. Seems like the big companies can give the best price as well as most features.

He doesn't want to get too technical as of right now (i.e. list segmentation) but it would be great if the provider has those features so we can use them later on down the road (once he realizes how valuable his list is and decides to invest more).

If cost is no option, I would suggest to your client that they look at renting their own vps or dedicated server and using arp4 autoresponder.

Might just be the solution they are looking for.
Arp4 last time I looked was $147 and free installation and two years free support.

Dedicated server, depends on who you choose.
      Anything from $97 month upwards.

Aweber will allow you to import lists, however the killer is, aweber force the list to be opt-in so all of his subscribers will have to opt-in again.

If your client is corporate, you might consider importing his list into a powerful client management solution such as Salesforce and then using an email marketing service such as Vertical Response that integrates well with Salesforce.

  • Aweber has been the most reliable and trusted email provider for many years. The fact that others may let you cut and paste your entire address book into their new system without any questions, (and some don't care whether these email addresses opted in or not) is the reason why you open your email inbox in the morning and find all kinds of crap that you didn't subscribe to, and sometimes without any legit way to unsubscribe.

You bet Dan. From what I've seen a lot of the hate for mail chimp on these forums is because their TOS prohibits affiliate marketing.

    Hi Dan,

Just so you are aware. If your client wants to avoid having to re-confirm his list (sending out confirmation emails to subscribers) -- you can contact the GetResponse support people and our compliance team can test the list. If there are no problems, we will waive the confirmation emails. And yes, it's easy to import lists for a number of sources -- anyone can do it with a few clicks.

    Regards,
    jim

    • I recall that iContact allowed me to import my list without requiring re-confirm emails. Maybe that would be a solution, too. My list was not huge, however.

I have no complaints about iContact so far.

I got my mailchimp account shout because I was doing Affiliate Marketing on MY PRODUCTS. Stay away... they are so arrogant, they do not allow you to use their service for any affiliate activity but THEY have an affiliate program...

Why don't you get your own software or script that could run with Amazon SES? With $1 you send 1,000 emails.
