What's your personal Ten Commandments Of Internet Marketing, based on your personal experience, research or knowledge gained so far? I'm not Moses but here's how mine would read.

I. Thou Shall Not Neglect Building a List - and keeping it Clean.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
II. Thou Shall Focus, and Not Be Tempted By Shiny Object Syndrome.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
III.Thou Shall Not Commit "To Anything" - Until You've Researched, Verified and Double-Checked.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IV. Thou Shall Not Sell Before Establishing A Focused Niche- and Unique Selling Proposition.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
V. Thou Shall Create a Brand-Positioning Strategy - Then Build On It.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VI. Thou Shall Not Steal ... But Personalize, Adapt, or Customize Successful Ideas.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VII. Thou Shall Know Thy Numbers and Stats.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
VIII. Thou Shall Honor Those Who've Gone Before You ... By Not Re-Inventing the Wheel.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
IX. Thou Shall Not Kill ... Your Credibility With False and Exaggerated Promises.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
X.Thy Shall Not Quit - But Recommit.
What commandments would you add? Or What did I miss? What's your #1 Commandment?
    Loving this thread!
    Tho shall not provide anything that isn't of a very high quality.
    Tho shall not become complacent and stand still.
    Tho shall not stop learning.
    You seem to have covered the rest that I would put.
      Complacency is a big one, at least it was for me. When I finally started making money, I had a tendency to play it safe - and not keep pushing forward, testing new ideas or trying new things. That's when complacency set in - and I started losing my swag (confidence).
      Finally, watching my sales dwindle, mailing list shrink and new ideas dry up helped me snap out of it. I vowed to never risk complacency again. It's a tricky "thing" and can sneak up on you quick. So, I created a set of guidelines that helps keep complacency at arms length.
        Remember, Moses didn't dream up or write the 10 Commandments - they were given to him by a higher authority.
        In a similar manner, no one really needs to make up their own commandments - they're all available in the principles that successful marketers have left for the rest of us.
        Today's successful businesses are built on the same foundation of tried and true principles that have been in existence for many, many years. Be observant and watch what is going on in profitable businesses . . . then adapt those same ideas to your own situation.
        The very best to all of you.
          I agree exactly what he says, there can be no 10 perfect commandments. It will differ for every different internet marketer, but some rules remain the same for all like building clean list, bla bla.
          Appreciate your thoughts, Steve. Good points as always. But you're taking me a little too literally. You can call them commandments, guidelines, strategies, keys to success, tips etc.
          Although there are many, most people tend to focus more on certain one's than they do others, that's what I'm looking for. Individual experiences that work for the individual.There's no right or wrong answer here to me, if that's your experience.
          Most successful people, companies and governments have and adhere to a set of written guidelines to keep them focused, effective and anchored. Especially, if you're new or going into new territory or markets, it helps to have guidelines in the heat of battle-rather than not have them.
          And yes, people can just observe and watch successful people and try to adapt the ideas but it's more meaningful if they know why and what their copying and adapting. Otherwise they're mear robots or clones -- with no content or creativity.
          You're spot on, it will differ for every internet marketer. That's the purpose of my thread and questions. I gave you mine. So, what works for you? That's what I'm saying.
          Yes, it's always good to be flexible, adjustable and adaptable. Changing circumstances makes it a requirement sometimes.
    Forget the 10 Commandments...
    2 Corinthians 3:7
    ...ministry of death
    , written and engraved on stones...
    Instead follow this...
    Deuteronomy 8:18
    And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth...
      I don't think there's an "either - or". They're all relevant and worth being aware of. Whether you choose to believe them and take action or not.
          Thou shall not: Waste time spending all day on Facebook, Warrior Forum or other sites, when you can spend time on your business.
