Warriors, what makes you sign up?

Perpetuation/maintenance of the initial interest that took me to the site
Liking the content on the site enough to want "more of the same, from the same person"
Wanting the "report"/"whatever" offered in exchange for email address
Seeing that the autoresponder being used is one I trust (and not a free one - spammers and "bad marketers" use those)
An opt-in box on a blog entices me far more than a pure squeeze page
Trusting the list-owner not to spam me or divulge my email address (sometimes a bit of guesswork, here, but again "which autoresponder they use", if I can see that, will help, as the decent ones will all be Can-Spam compliant, so in theory I can always unsubscribe, but this is a big "trust issue" for me, and a hurdle the list-owner has to get me over, somehow, to get my email address)

Myself? Well that really depends on the content that the website or blog provides. If the blog provides excellent content that really makes me want to read more of his/her posts, then chances of me signing up for their newsletters increases a lot. This thought usually runs through my mind when I'm being asked to subscribe:

"Was this article useful? If so, then the information that this person sends in his or her emails must be equally good. If not, then the email content is probably on the same level."

For me, it's really all about the quality of the content on the blog that determines if I'll sign up or not.

Of course it has to be free and risk-free to sign up. Special gifts never hurt. But mostly it really depends on the quality of the content, if it was good or if it helped me in any way.

Will they accept a throwaway email address like mailinator.com? If so, I'll sign up to just about anything. Probably won't do the marketer much good though...

That's easy . . .

No risk
Compelling offer
The exchange of my email for something that I deem of great value
Preferably from someone I recognize (not mandatory)
The offer catches me at the right time
Something unique, or new, or obviously outstanding
Quickly obvious exactly what I'm getting (no long, long narrative; no full length video, no "blind" ads or surprises)
The list is aligned with my business or interests (highly targeted)

I like very specific and targeted offers - it's either exactly what I'm looking for or it's not. Generalities are not what I need right now in my career.

What really makes me sign up is this.
The squeeze, landing page must just be mind-blowing. It must look as if nothing can go wrong with this product and that if I choose it, I will certainly see results. Also, it must feel personal in the sense that I actually see the person who is REALLY selling the product, in a video or something. If something is unique and different to all the rest, I will also buy it. I hate seeing the same stupid offers the whole time. Especially in binary options you see this lately. It's always the same set-up, never unique which is why it just looms crappy. In the end, I will never buy if there's no guarantee. For me, that tells me that I can at least get out of the product if I hate it, so that I didn't wats time and money on something unnecessary.

If I am looking for particular information and I found the person presenting the information helpful and they are giving away something for free I don't mind opting in to get more information, it's as simple as that. We are in the business of helping each other. If they start sending me crap with no value I quickly hit the unsubscribe button.

What makes me sign up are 2 very simple things...

1. An highly valuable offer that is going to give me something I want.

2. Credibility that the person who will be getting my email will be providing me with valuable content.

If the offer doesn't have enough value and I see the marketer is only trying get make money from me I won't sign up.
