Here's a few plugins that you might find useful for your blog. I had to dig around to find them, but this list might save you some research time. And, they're all compatible with the latest version of Wordpress. Also, feel free to post your useful plugins here too: AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget: This is an awesome Web 2.0 plugin that makes it really easy for your visitors to share your content. There are other Web 2.0 sharing plugins, but this one has almost every service, and it's simple and clean. TweetMeme Button: Adds a "Retweet" icon to your posts that allows visitors to easily retweet your blog posts. The button also provides a current count of how many times your post has been retweeted on Twitter A must have for Twitter users. Contact Form 7: A very simple but versatile contact form plugin for your blog. It has most of the options that most contact form scripts have, except this one is free and you don't have to rely on a third party website for your form. What Would Seth Godin Do: This is a very cool lesser known plugin. It displays a custom welcome message to any new visitors to your blog. It's based on Seth Godin's idea that you should treat returning visitors differently than new visitors. It gives you an opportunity to welcome new visitors with a short helpful description of your blog, and it's also another opportunity to ask for a subscription. Highly recommended. WordPress Database Backup: I'm still surprised to hear stories about people losing their blogs because their themes were corrupted or some other random accident happened. It's pretty obvious how important a routine backup of your blog is, but it's often overlooked. I have this plugin set up to automatically email me a backup of my blog every week. So, if the worst happens, the most I'll lose is a week of data. I've used it already one time, and I'm sure I'll use it again in the future. Hope you found one here you didn't know about and can use! |

Hi Sully, Some interesting ones there, although for flexibility and customisability I prefer WP-Greet-Box to What Would Seth Godin Do. This link is to a blog article where I set out more than 20 plugins I like, broken down by categories: SEO related, Community related, Security and Admin related, and the rest: http://www.wealthydragon.com/blog/20...press-plugins/ Hope it's helpful! Cheers, Martin. |

Hi all, I'm looking for a specific plugin and this seems like an appropriate place to throw out a request. My wife is making her first website, she's using wordpress(also for the first time) and is looking for a plugin that allows automatic posts on set dates on a recurring basis. Specifically she has a list of brithdays that she wants to automatically post 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY x' on their birthday each year. Any thoughts? |

I tried 3 auto post plugins before, I'd recommend the script created by automaticblogupdater. I find it very easy to use and quite flexible. But I don't know if they're still selling this plugin now. The payment link on the site doesn't seem to work. Another one that seem to have good feedback is slickwpautoposter. For the birthday plugin I don't know if this is what you're looking for: birthday list author birthday list

To make this happen every year, you could look for a "re-poster" plugin (not sure the name, because I saw it once but haven't used it) that would recycle and repost your existing posts. I am not sure if you can custimaize it to work with exact dates or certain articles or what. If that plugin doesn't work, just copy the post and make a new post for each year you want to update. Could be time consuming if you plan on having 10 people to wish happy b-day each for the next 20 years.

Don't forget the All in One SEO pack. A must have for any public WP blog. It won't make or break your SEO strategy, but it does help fine tune your descriptions the search engines show, and that makes it worth it. |
