Can I Have Multiple PayPal Business Names?

No matter how many answers you get here, you really need to check with PayPal to know for SURE how to set that up!

Let me tell you my story.

I live in Thailand now but I'm born and raised in the Netherlands so I have a Dutch Paypal, forced to cash out to a Dutch bank account.

My account got locked some day due to typing in my password wrong a few times and I got in touch with someone from Paypal, there was some back and forth emailing cause I was logging in from a Thai IP and it went through a whole verification cycle.

Anyway, at some point I started to ask some other questions if it would be possible to cash out to a Thai bank account registered on my personal name.

His answer: No but you can create another account in Thailand and verifiy it if you have a registered address and whatever else is needed to verify it.

So I suppose if you live in a different country you can have multiple Paypal accounts, I haven't tried it yet though.

What I heard from others (no reliable sources to quote though) is that you're allowed to have a personal account and a business account. Would make sense as a business account would be on name of the company and that are two different entities.

It's been quite a few years since I first set up a PayPal account, but you used to be able to have one personal account and one business account. However, the personal account had some restrictions that made it impractical to use for trading. In any case, it might have changed now.

I'm not sure how much of an advantage it is to have your exact brand name show up on a PayPal notification. If I were you, I'd create a business account with a generic name, such as JH Enterprises for example, that you could use for all your businesses.

I spoke with my PayPal rep about this a while ago, as I was opening a second business. They were fine with me having two separate accounts. They even offered to let me have the better discount I was getting on the new account I was opening.

If you have two paypal business accounts you should probably want to make sure at least one of the business accounts lists your EIN instead of your social.

You can have 10 different email addresses on any one paypal account !

It's important to make a distinction of what you mean by "show" here. Are you just wanting the banner at the top of the PayPal pay login screen to show information related to one business or the other. OR, are you trying to have the customer's credit card statement show your name differently based on how they purchased?

The latter can't be done with a single account, but you can set it to something that is generic enough to be usable for both businesses in my opinion.

The former can easily be done with button settings where you pass in the secure path to a banner image that will be displayed at the top of the page when the user goes to PayPal to pay. This can be done differently on every button that you setup.

I had created a guide a long time ago on how to do this with the $7 Secrets Script store setup and it worked quite well. Of course, PayPal has changed there interface many times over since then, but the concept still works even though the instructions are different.

Nowadays, you can set the "image_url" parameter on your pay button and give it the path to the logo that you want to display on the PayPal checkout page whenever that button is clicked. This logo can be different for each button you use.

Another option is to setup Page Styles in PayPal, one for each arm of your business, and then set the page_style parameter on your pay button. This gives you a place within the PayPal interface to manage all the things related to how the checkout page displays without having to set a bunch of different options on the buy buttons. All you have to do is set the Page Style option when creating the button.

If enough people throw up a Thanks here, I might just go through and recreate the guide. I really find that having a customized banner relating directly to the product being purchased really does help solidify conversion rates. It's getting better, but a lot of people are still wary of buying from someone through PayPal because they think it might be a scam or they can't be sure they're going to get what they were trying to pay for. But, if you can connect them to your product by displaying a product specific logo or banner at the top of the page, it helps to put them at ease.

I didn't read all the posts here, but you can have one main or parent PayPal account and several PayPal child accounts. You can put a different business name on each child account that you create.

The money that the child account collects will be moved up to your parent account in around 24 hours automatically. So you really never accumulate any money in the child accounts, just the current sales for the day.

If you don't have a PayPal representative, you can call PayPal and ask about setting up a child account.

You will be able to set up that child account with a different business name.

PayPal allow you to have one personal, one premier and one Business account at a time. However you can use different emails as well as financial details to open multiple accounts. Otherwise PayPal will block all of your accounts for sure. So, Be careful.

It works with a full blown paypal merchant account (which is really run by Verisign) - but I don't know if it would work if your only checkout method is paypal itself.

As someone else wrote, you should call them and ask.

They have specialists on the merchant side who can handle that - but again if you are not talking about a merchant account, I don't know the answer to that question.

Interesting responses. I have a PayPal business account and a personal account - both in my own name.

I started a limited company back in 2007 and wanted a PayPal business account for that, too. They turned us down - even though I was applying for the company in my capacity as a director and not as an individual. I got on to PayPal, and they said I couldn't be associated with more than one PayPal business account - even though I was running two separate businesses (one as a sole trader, another as a limited company with other people). In the end the company decided to do without PayPal altogether, and use wire transfers to pay outsourcers.

My understanding is that you can have one business account and one personal. Follow their policy to the letter otherwise you will be banned.

Paypal has some of the BEST customer service in the world.

I am in the same boat you are, they told me I can only have one business account and one personal account. So, I had to pick which name to use on the business and the personal. The problem is if you need more than one you have to use different email, bank accounts, credit card but can be done and they did not close mine. They verify everything anyway, so they know.

Do you have separate business trade license? If you have these, you can do separate PAYPAL ID. Otherwise there is no validity to use 2 IDs at the same time by one person. Finally you can check with the support center of the PAYPAL. because there is MONEY activity, if the authority banned your ID, you money may be forfeiture.

I have two separate PayPal business accounts. Each one has a different checking account with different log-in email addresses and passwords.
