Wordpress Plugins for new site?

Good day,

I have just set up a new Wordpress site and now I am wondering what are the recommended plug ins that I should set up.

I have already installed all-in-one-seo-pack as I know it and like it, hope it works?

Please help me by suggesting anything else that I need, thanks.

Hi and congrats on the new site.

If you deal with a lot of content such as articles etc..

I recommend you find a stable drip feed script of your
liking and put it to use. it will be good to use for those
times you can write and post yourself.

I would also advise you to setup a good anti spam plugin
of some sort. WP has one you can use from cpanel but
it might not catch all the spam you get.

seo plugin is great.

you will have to activate akismet to keep the spammers at bay

then i would recommend 2 social bookmarking plugins:

onlywire (for you)

add to any (or similar) for visitors

birdfeeder - to tweet your new posts atomatically

maxblogpress ping optimizer - so it does not ping a new post again if you edit something

and if you want to use adsense, get the all in one adsense and ypn plugin - so you can add adsense into your posts - the CTR in the sidebar is very low.

Hi

A lot depends on what the purpose you have for your blog is.

You'll want some basic stuff like CommentLuv - a way to reward your visitors for making a comment, and maybe Math Comment Spam - when Akismet can't control the spam bots.

Of course, if you're using your blog for business and marketing, you'll want to add plugins aimed at that area.

Both Jim and grumpyjacksa gave you a good starting point.

Those 2 plugins will save you lots of trouble and headaches

Hi Oscar,

Congratulations on getting Wordpress going..!

Craig is correct - you'll want specific plugins based on what you're using your site for, and you can Google for those.

For a list of basic plugins, split into various categories (SEO related, Spam and Security related, etc) and with a short description of each, you can check out this:

Oscar - it's real easy to get crazy and add every plugin that YOU think is cool. Fight the temptation and only install the plugins that will help you or your visitors. Like graphics, too many, no matter how cool, can make a site/blog look like a screenfull of congested crap.

You wont need some of the plugins like wordpress upgrade as it is now inclusive.

Also try to find ones that have active forums as then you will be sure they will follow the upgrade process.

Lastly try to get plugins that cover a few things if possible for example Video Vipers quick tags will allow public video and self hosted video.
