G'day folks.

I wander if anyone can assist me.

I used a hosting company called 987mb. About a month ago, I had an email saying that they had to close for unforeseen reasons. I emailed them back to confirm if this was for real or was it a scam to get me to sign up with another hosting company.

No reply.

I emailed them again saying I was concerned that I would lose my websites. I had a very curt reply from them saying which websites I was concerned about. I emailed them back with the details.

No reply.

I went to godaddy to transfer my domains and hosting, got it all set up with them and they sent an email to 987mb for the transfer codes.

No reply.

I emailed them again.

No Reply.

And again for the transfer codes.

No reply.

Now I can't get into my hosting account on 987mb and one of my domains has expired because I couldn't renew it, and I have no way of getting it back.

When I paid for the hosting and domains, the bloke, Aden Clark from 987mb registered them in his name and I can't get access to them.

Now the helpdesk is closed. He must be dead or left the country because there is no sign of him.

My question is - Is there any way that I can get access to the domains although it is in his name? The domain registrars all say he needs to transfer the domains over but obviously he isn't going to.

I am raging as I have spent months on these sites, all for nothing. One of them was just starting to make me some good money too.

Anyhow, thanks for your input.

Martin

Nothing much you can do except report it to https://www.icann.org/ and hope they can intervene... and don't go with cheap, unknown hosting.

Thanks for the suggestions folks. Much appreciated. I will follow up on them.

Kingfish85, yes I have been in contact with the domain registrar and they said it can only be Aden Clark that can get access to the domains.

I will only stay with reputable companies from now on. Lesson learned.

      Thanks
      Martin

    I second that ^.
Report it and hope that you'll get some help.
And next time, do more research before choosing a web hosting service! It's a shame to lose an entire website because hosting companies don't really care about their customers

Do you know who they were registering domains through? Could you provide the domain name? If they registered it with your info, you might be able to get the domain back. As for the website itself, do you have backups?

Yes, I managed to get hold of Aden Clark and he helped me out. I am all set up on a new hosting and up and running again. I lost my databases but I had downloaded all of the info to my computer. I have just been re-doing my site.

Funny thing is, I much prefer the look and feel of my new site so in a way it was a blessing that this happened. I also learned so much about transferring domains and hosting details. I found it very enlightening.

      Everything happens for a reason.

      Cheers folks.

    Hi Martin,

First off, there is a lot you can do. These are the steps I would take:

Step 1 - Make sure you keep accurate records of all your documentation and phone conversations in a bound notebook, i.e. dates, times and a detailed account of the conversations that transpire with any and all communications regarding your issues and any third party entities you communicate with. A bound note book one that the pages can't be ripped out is or is noticeable if they were, is admissible in a court of law.

Step 2 - Contact the BBB and file a complaint, even though the company has closed you need to document it by getting it on public record.

Step 3 - Contact ICANN and have them create a case number, also documenting it and getting it on record.

Step 4 - Contact WIPO.org. WIPO is the global forum for intellectual property services, policy, information and cooperation. There is a fee of $1500 dollars, but once you win your case, you will receive most of that money back.

Step 5 - Contact an intellectual property attorney, regardless if the domain names are registered trademarks, they are still your intellectual property.

Step 6 - Next time you chose a registrar, make sure that you do your due diligence and conduct thorough research.

I hope things work out for you, good luck!

    James

P.S. If you don't mind, I will add you to my friends list and please follow up with me and let me know how things unfold.
