Should my about page be written in 3rd person?

Hi,

Should my about page be written in a 3rd person perspective or should I write using "I" and "me" (first person)?

Which is better?

Thanks,

I think that you should match the tone of your site. If it's friendly, casual and approachable, using "I" or "me" is fine. If you want a more corporate feel, then "he" or "she" or "first name" would be best. Just my two cents. Also, I'm sure there's a style guide out there that can give you specific recommendations.

I agree with this. I would also add that if you are going to list a lot of credentials and accomplishments it sounds more professional and less like bragging if it is in 3rd person.

Just be yourself. Share what you want to share. It's your about me page. Personally, I would be as honest as possible and think giving value. Share your story etc.

    Karlstech,

Personally, I think you should write it in the first person only. It's the About Me page right? It's not the "About Him" page that would fit a third person approach.

Tell your prospects what you're about. Let them get to know you. Let them sample your personality and your "voice."

IMO, too many site owners hide behind anonymity.

    The best to you,

    Steve

Honestly, we can't tell you how it should be written because we have no idea what site you're talking about. If it's a personal site, then use "I". For a small business site, then first or third would work...but it would depend on the rest of the site. If it's a larger business our you're trying to project being a larger company, then third person is the way to go.

Then again, I use "we" on a lot of my sites...just to make it look like I'm a team instead of an individual. So there are lots of options, but they all depend on the site itself.

    Hi Karl,

I am big on doing 1st person.

It adds an authentic, real, story-telling vibe to your blog and this energy seeps to and through your community. Folks like to learn more about the provider of the content, because before they can trust your advice they need to trust the source. You're the source, and being transparent, and personable, and telling your story from your view forms an intimate bond with your audience.

If you go third person make sure you have your writing down pat; sounds hollow if you're not a skilled writer. If however you do it 1st person folks seem to look past your writing, if it's casual, and presented how you speak, because you're the one doing the talking.

Please share your About Page here, OK? Would love to check it out.

      Hi karlstech,

If you website is centred mainly around yourself & what you can offer to your audience - rather than as a company or business - then you should definitely write it in the 1st person as it will help build your own personal brand & establish yourself as the go-to authority in your own niche.

You can read more about how to create the perfect "About Me" page from this following detailed article written by Neil Patel in Dec last year, it's a great post on this particular subject matter from a very successful entrepreneur & marketer:

It depends on your audience and what you are trying to achieve. 3rd person is more formal and sounds more impressive from a corporate standpoint. However, most IM'ers are trying to create an emotional connection to their target audience, and as such, 1st person would be far preferable to that goal.

Also, remember to spice it up and put some personality into it.You want to stand out from the crowd.

    Good luck in your endeavors!

As it is your own website, write it as a first person because you are telling about your website.

Thank you for the constructive feedback Warriors, I am also a fan of the first person writing, it's just that I've seen bloggers write from 3rd person.

But I do feel more comfortable with writing I and Me instead of Him. Just wanted your thoughts on this!

    Thanks
