Default Affiliate Programs That Ask "Where Did You Hear Of Us?"

This kind of irked me... I'm in the process of trying to collect unpaid commissions from an affiliate program. Turns out the holdup is they've got this box that asks the customer where they heard of them and so need to review everything first. All fine and good, if there's not already a referrer via the actual link that brought them there, right? But, they want to use the name in the box to override the affiliate link (if that name/site is also an affiliate). Seems wrong to me. How would you feel about promoting such a program?
