I've just finished up a Wordpress plugin that does something really cool -- it gives you the ability to add custom themed avatars to your comments section. Of course, if people still have Gravatars, it will show those first, but otherwise it will show the custom icons you add.

I made it because I really don't care much for the monster ID stick figures or the weird Wavatar faces. So for example, if you have an internet marketing blog, your commenters could have avatars of money, nice cars, etc. If you have a blog about pets, your users could have avatars of cats, dogs, birds and so on.

Try it out and let me know what you think

Excellent!

I shall try this out when I get home. I was playing around YESTERDAY trying to figure out how to set a custom avatar for when the person has no gravatar!

If I get it working I'll post a review on my yournicheblog.com help blog
