Penniless on the World Wide Web
I created this as an email for my autoresponder and I swear I get replies back daily - people in tears after reading it (it spoke to them), people just saying it was so honest it hurt, etc. I thought I'd share it here since for so long it's gotten such a strong response - it might help a fellow new Warrior. I know MANY of you seasoned Warriors get the same kind of emails I talk about here from your subscribers who are desperate (and we see it here too):
One of my favorite movies ever is Sleepless in Seattle. It's a feel-good story of heartbreak and finding love again. Two souls who barely know each other make a connection that succeeds.
Right now, I'm seeing a similar thing happen with online marketing. People all over the globe are reaching out to me (and other marketers) to see if I can help them make money. They're in the heartbreak stage right now - many trying to make their mortgage, others not happy with retiring.
Some are so desperate that it scares me. I get emotional reading some of the emails that come in begging me to just help them make $1,000 by Friday so they don't lose their house or so they can pay for some medical procedure. I've been there before, too!
Some people don't have any specific questions in mind to ask - just send out an S.O.S to see what advice I can offer. They don't know how to cash in online, but it's not something I can tell you in one sitting in an email reply.
I whole-heartedly believe in Internet marketing as one of the best careers ever. My biggest perks are being my own boss, getting to raise my kids myself, and the unlimited earning potential (my income rises about $10-30k each year).
But it's not something you can achieve overnight.
That's not what most people want to hear, but it's true! It takes a bit to brand your name, research your niche, carve a unique place out for yourself in your market, and set up everything to start making money.
I don't mind helping anyone who emails me with a specific question. The broad pleas for assistance are impossible, though - and when I reply I often feel like I've let them down with my response that tells them it might not be possible for an unknown with no list to make that much in 48 hours.
I sometimes never hear back from them and I have to sit and wonder like the listeners to the radio show on Sleepless in Seattle - "What happened to so-and-so?" Did they find a way to pay their mortgage or were they kicked out? Did they have enough to get the medical procedure? It's like someone shut off the movie halfway through and I have that unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach.
If you're currently surfing around the web looking for that out of the ballpark smash that's going to make you a millionaire this year, slow down! Build a business and you'll have that security you crave. I'm here for you if you reach out and need some guidance. But don't set yourself up for disappointment.
