You can definetly give it a try.

The conversion rate largely depends on the quality of the traffic.

If the person clicks on the link that says "click here if you are ready to buy right now!", chances are the conversion rate will be slightly higher than if he was clicking a link inside a spam email.

1:16 is pretty good. Thats's 1 sale per 16 clickthrus. 16:1 sounds very high! Generally if something sounds too good to be true it's NOT true.

A 16:1 conversion rate sounds a tad optimistic to me. If you could rank for the product name and had a decent presell page you might get that.

Should you try it? Why not, the more you try, the more you learn what works and what doesn't.

I have a product that has been converting at an average of 7%+ two years strait for my affiliates.

Most affiliates have averaged $1 or higher per click but even the ones that do not send that targeted of traffic generate $.50+ per click.

Sure products with a consistent 6%+ conversion rate are rare but there is no harm in testing his claim.

I have about a half dozen or so products that I am an affiliate for that convert pretty close to this. It's all about targeted traffic. When CB is behaving itself stuff tends to convert overall at a rate around 1:20 to 1:25...so 1:16 isn't out of line in my book

When CB is behaving itself "stuff" tends to convert?

CB does not have much to do with the conversion process.

And there is no such thing as a 5% conversion rate for CB ("stuff") as a whole.

Conversion is one thing but whether CB accurately tracks your referral to you when a sale takes place well that's another ball of wax all together.
