What would YOU do with this domain

I've been going through some transitional stuff right now, but after a few drinks the other night I grabbed something:

spinsterforum.com

LOL, could have some potential. Ok, so what would you do with this domain?

Obviously needs a forum, but what topics, conversations, thread areas etc would you expect to see on a forum for spinsters?

Thanks.

Jill

      LOL, Thanks Ricky.

Dare I run ads for dating services?

BTW, put up a "spinster needs a room" ad as I am looking for new housing and got some great replies.

I quickly found out there is more than one of us out there.

Spinster - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The word itself gets some serious search results monthly. There is definitely a market but I need to get some ideas on the best way to approach it. Gotta give em what they want ya know?

Some high quality gemstone rings may actually be a great offering.

Also, if anyone is interested in playing with it by all means shoot me a pm and what you are thinking.

The term is also somehow connected to snowboards - may be a brand.

Yes, the thrill rides could work as well.

I went on the NY NY coaster in Vegas at 11 am in the morning after a heavy party night - OMG, won't do that again. That coaster was wicked.

Personally, the domain name doesn't appeal to me. Not sure if it will to other women. But well, since it's a good domain, you can start a female forum which probably targets the female market like anti-aging, jewellery, fashion, health & fitness. just my 2 cents worth. well, hope that helps!

    Hi,

You could start a forum for

    Disk Jockeys

Spinners, (They are riders of a special stationary bike at a gym)

Or a website for any cause that has the initials U.M. Spinster for United Miners/ Unwed Mothers/ Ugly Monkys/ Union Members/

Or you could change your name to Spin Sterf Orum (from Holland or Norway) and use it for a vanity site or just use as an alter ID/Pen Name on the Warrior Forum. "Hi, My name is Spin Sterf Orum please critique my web site at SpinSterfOrum.com and tell me how I can make $1,000 in a week with it."

    Just to name a few.

    Hi,

It may be nice to put a positive spin on the term "spinster". In the UK at least it's not really seen as a nice thing to call someone, although it's an old term that meant a woman had not married and gone past the age considered "OK" to have children (which was probably only late 20s 200 years ago). Perhaps a site dedicated to helping single women find partners(bit already done) or how about a site for single women looking to have children (without the husband/father relationship thing).

    Cheers, Lee.

    Hi Jill

If you want to make your site popular you will want to provide discussions and offers on everything your target market will want, including I dare say, the possibility of leaving the spinster scene by way of dating ads.

You need to do a bit of market research. What age group will your market typically be? Are they mainly going to be spinsters through choice or because they haven't yet met the right person?

I had a look to see if there were any forums out there where you could get some information on what spinsters might be looking for. Initially I searched for forum + spinster. When I came up with sites offering product reviews of spinsters I became a little bit suspicious...Not that I would be adverse to looking at product reviews of bachelorettes.

However it appears that the term spinster is largely dominated by a popular snow board and it wasn't possible to find anything relating to unmarried women.

I did another search using forum + spinster + unmarried and came up better results. It would be worth your while to have a look through these forums for inspiration. The first forum I found at Spinster: Facts, Discussion Forum, and Encyclopedia Article might be worth a visit just to check out their article concerning the term spinster.

It rightly points out that the term has been applied in a derogatory nature throughout history. To combat that you may need to put some pictures of attractive women on your home page so that people arriving on the site feel good about them selves and their status.

Since many spinsters live alone, you can introduce topics or products on your site that would apply to people who live alone. For example cooking for one, bachelorette parties, security products, etc.

For spinsters who want to leave the spinster scene, the obvious one is dating products. There could also be holiday products and destinations (something else to brighten up your home page) that help people to meet up with the opposite sex.

And to help them make successful connections you could also introduce weight loss products. I was reminded of this when I went to the site above. It was hard to believe that the beautiful girl in the white body suit was the same girl as the girl shown in the pre-weight loss photo.

So there are plenty of things you can sell. The big challenge that you have is getting the traffic to your site. On a global basis the term spinster is searched approximately 33,100 per month. However the vast majority of people looking up the term spinster may not be searching for a forum for unmarried women.

Some of them could be men while many may be children wondering what a spinster is. The majority are likely however to be people looking for a spinster snow board. There are 1000 searches per month for the term forum spinster but again I am sure that this will be greater than 95% related to the snow board.

Mind you if the spinster snow board traffic is mainly woman then you might capitalize big time on this. There is no reason why you could not have an advertisement for spinster snow boards on your home page to draw them into the page and optimize your page for the term spinster forum and spinster snow board.

Failing that, to get traffic to your site you are more likely to have to resort to keywords derived from bachelorette, such as bachelorette party, bachelorette games, bachelorette ideas, etc. But I haven't checked to see how much competition you would face in this area.

While I think you could build up a good forum based on the spinster theme, in the initial stages, I am not sure that the term spinster in your domain name really adds anything to your potential for marketing the forum apart from profiting from the snow board traffic as discussed.

Later I can see it becoming a brand name through word of mouth and the historic connotations associated with the word spinster wouldn't matter.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Wishes

    Joe Bradley

Yes, I was seeing the snowboard thing a lot.

I agree Joe, high search volume, but what exactly are they looking for?

Perhaps a simple poll: What did you expect to find on this site?

and just give all the possible answers with a sign-up form and just let the emails tell me.

        Hi Jill

Yes, a poll on the domain would help to establish what people are looking for when they come to the site.

What I would suggest is that you offer them a free gift for filling in the poll. This could be a generic free gift that would suit all, or you could direct them to a different thank you page depending on their response so that they can pick up a gift that relates to their response.

For instance if they were interested in spinster snow boards you could have a report on snow boards whereas if they were interested in a site relating to unmarried mothers then you could give them 10 top cooking tips for singles or something like that.

You would also have an "other" category to find out if there are any other reasons people come to your site and in that case they should specify why they came.

In all cases, the thank you page could be a squeeze page that wets their appetite for the gift. You can then get their email address and add them to different lists so that you can continue marketing to them.

If you find that most of your visitors are for snow boarding, then perhaps you should change your tact and forget about unmarried women. Snow boards could be much more lucrative.

You could always find a different domain name for your unmarried women site that includes the keywords more often searched, if you really want to do this and have determined there is a market.

hey just to play the devils advocate... has anyone in this thread started a forum before?? OMG they are time consuming and take a while to get critical mass.

From my epxerience, unless you enjoyed the topic and planned to hang around for a year or two then dont even start something like this. So much goes into getting a forum community kicked off, I dont think you should approach this lightly

nice domain though, if you're over 40 and actually use the word spinster. I guess alot of the singles market is mature so this would probably do really well with that demographic.
