What's required before activating a buy button

Sometimes people think all you need to make money online is to put up a buy button.

But what has to be done BEFORE you can turn it on?

Off the top of my head, I can think of:

1.) Have a finished product that is packaged

2.) Have a sales page

3.) Have a way to deliver the product (sales page, autoresponder, etc)

4.) Ideally have an upsell to offer more value/generate more income)

5.) Have a way to accept money (Paypal, WP, W+, JVzoo, Nanacast, Clickbank button)

6.) Have an autoresponder to add buyers to your list

That's 6 things, right there, that need to happen FIRST before you go live.

Can you think of other things?

I myself always create my buy buttons FIRST - they're "buy button placeholders" so I can fill in the data once I'm ready. Making a placeholder says to me, Ok self, I'm going to make things happen... sometime.... in the future... so I'm preparing now!

Whats your take?

Set a price for the product and
also consider how you can get
    coupons or discount codes to
work. Had a problem with that one,
lol, so my customers have missed out
on great discounts they could have grabbed,
if only I knew how to activate promo codes.

Most people don't even get that far.. I am the opposite get the website up fast and dirty,
get buy button up and throw traffic at it, then start adding the other stuff after..

If your are going to for a launch type thing, then get your email swipes/banner/promo/bonus set up before hand, You will need to run the offer anyways to get conversion data to help promote to affiliates.

Sometimes, maybe 50% in my case, I have used 4 of the six and often get them done in hours.

Product-Mostly PDF files, from 2 to 16 pages, HOTSHEETS, reports, etc.
PAYPAL. And often have taken them to the download THANK YOU page which has been hosted on DropBox
Simple sales page, here is what it is, buy or don't.

I guess, if you consider the PayPal process as one thing, then only three steps.

Some one off products don't need upsells or autoresponders, in fact, I've quit doing that altogether.

    Here is an example:

I'm working on projects for the 50th anniversary of the Lunar Landing, which is more than 3 years away. These will be collectible and/or Commemorative projects with prices between 19 to 199 dollars.

In discussing these long term projects, I've found a canyon of unawareness of these markets (especially on behalf of copywriters). MOST would-be Internet Marketers have no idea of this Billion dollar a year market, which suits those of us that do, just fine.

There is nothing for an Entrepreneur on How to Create and Profit from Commemorative Products. I could easily create a report, BUT, I consider my knowledge and experience to be much more valuable than what a report could offer.

So...I can put up a very simple web site with a paypal button for a very low cost ---AWARENESS of Market Report, say 10 dollars.

No upsells. No autoresponders. But within the report will be a BINARY choice (giving a choice between two things is a tested and proven strategy, give them 3 or more and you've confused too many would be customers).

The choice could be coaching or a JV. Depends on, what they bring to the table.

This "model" is one which I've used for over a decade...not interested in building lists at this point, in fact whittled my list down from 5 to low 4 figures and feel a few hundred of the right kind of people would be all I would want.

    Prospect.
    Product.
    Promotion.

Each should have the fully fleshed out details within them, including the where, why and how questions.

Sometimes, all you need is the BUY button, in the case of selling time, for example. Want an hour, pay the 250 bux, and we'll talk sort of a thing.

PS. There may be a standardized "funnel template" one can use, but there are NO Rules on how to do it outside of that standard.
