How Do I Get Quality Leads For My Client?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently working with a web developer who needs more leads for his business.

I was thinking about using Craigslist, but I know there's a lot of competition there already.

I'd prefer to use a paid advertising source such as PPC since I know it can produce good results. I'm wondering if there are any other effective ways that I can get leads? Does anyone have experience with this? Any and all advice is welcome!

Thanks

      Hi John,

That service is specifically related to the make money online niche. There are a lot of
fake sources out there and I'm looking for real people who needs help building a website.

What John said is a key point sunshine.

Your question slaps you in the face and refutes your online presentation which I am sure you have sense enough to not have any identifiable connection with your OP and your service business.

The question should have been, "Where can I find people and businesses who need a website designed for them?", or something along those lines.

I think maybe it just made you think of 2 or three scenarios that would fit the bill!

Many marketers do not ask the right questions and that is why you can't figure out the right answers!

      Hello,

Now I understand what you guys are saying. My question and signature kind of contradict each other. Thank you both for pointing that out. What I meant to ask is where do I find people who want a website built for them?

Did you get paid by your client to generate leads?

If you do not know how to generate leads, why do you sell your services?

Master the game first, sell later.

      Thanks for the advice Aron,

This I actually my first client and I haven't gotten paid yet. I'm mostly experienced in Facebook and Twitter marketing. I was just wondering if there were any other paid sources that work just as well.

      Hi,

Once I find a source that works and I'm comfortable with using, I'll let you know. I'm sure there are some advertising methods out there that generate consistent results.

      Hi George,

Thanks for commenting. I've heard of Opt-Intelligence, but I never considered trying out the service. The fact that their leads come from major news sources makes it seem more reliable. I'm going to do more research on both.

We set up a business directory for a local area - free submission. Ran some PPC (Facebook) and got a good response.

We went through the businesses - identified those that either didn't have a website, or looked like their website could do with a re-design and contacted them by phone.

It generated a fair amount of work. The calls were easier as we had already given them a little something by the free submission in the directory.

      Hi James,

Thanks for commenting. That's actually a great idea, I'm glad this method worked well for you. How long did it take you to build the directory? I know that Facebook PPC can produce good results since you can set a targeted audience. I'm guessing that the free submission you offered made it easier to get your foot in the door as compared to just cold calling them. I just might give this a try. Thanks again.

Not long - we already had the site - which was a what to do, where to go in the local area etc etc and just added the GeoDirectory plugin which is paid (there are free directory plugins available)

The campaigns still running but we got 400 submissions initially from a £200 (approx) spend. We offered a free prize draw to win an i-pad for all that submitted.

Of the initial 400, we contacted over a third by phone.

What niche is the business in?

Most would go for PPC, try out Bing, it will be cheaper than Google.

Facebook is a viable option, but Bing is search traffic, and nothing is more targeted than search traffic.

      Hi Andrew,

He builds websites centered around the E-commerce niche. PPC seems to work very well, especially when targeting a certain audience. You're right Bing is less expensive than Google or Facebook, so I'll take using Bing into consideration as well.

And dont forget to use a calculator to compare the results from different options.

Some time back I used Opt-Intelligence and Bing at the same time. Bing was more expensive per optin, also much slower to build that list. With Opt-Intelligence you dont buy clicks, you get the optins directly, and really fast, I had to slow them down [limit the daily spend] to not burn through my budget too quickly.

So with PPC you dont know how many optins you get, with the other guys you do,
they are huge and on so many main properties. like for example NY main news portals.

Finding leads for initial web designs implies that you are looking for businesses that do not yet have a web presence. That can be a real challenge, in that many will still be in the stage where they don't realize the disadvantages of not having a home base online.

One way would be to create content to raise awareness of that disadvantage and use things like sponsored posts (aka, 'linkbait') to generate inquiries. That should even play into your your experience with social media somewhat.

Another, more time intensive, way to do this might be to create content for specific markets (there was a recent post on here from a member whose family operated a pair of funeral homes) and try to distribute it to industry magazines and online portals.

You can't get them into the buying cycle until they acknowledge both a need/desire and the existence of a possible solution.

Or you could target businesses who need an upgrade, or who are relying on free website builders (blogger.come, wix.com, etc.) and/or a social media page (like Facebook or LinkedIn). They know they need a web presence, but are not optimizing that presence.

I use this site. It basically pulls web design gigs from all 417 US cities on craigslist and displays them in one mobile optimized interface and it shows new leads every 24 hours as its finding them in real time. The service is free do use and the script that runs the site is open source and is available for download at no cost. Let me know if this works for you.

One of the best-paid resources is PPC but the question is whether your client will pay for it or not, else go for proper SEO if XYZ keyword is less competitive.

Thanks for your suggestion. I would definitely consider creating a PPC campaign because of the targeting options. My client would be willing to pay as long as the leads are responsive. His goal is to get several customers a month.

Beside your PPC program, you can do some quality backlinks which will help you in two ways. 1) Your PR of the site will increase and 2) You will get more quality leads.

Thanks for the advice. Backlinks would help my client get more organic traffic to his site, but it seems like more of a long term approach. From what I know about SEO, it takes time to get a new website to rank.

Any sought of traffic can be good. I would still use Craig's lists, but also venture out into the wild internet and explore the avenues it presents. Paid advertisement is a good way but can be costly at the end of the day. Such methods are good as SEO for websites or blogs, social media and one of my favorites is list building/email marketing.

I hope this has help and good luck.

You say you are experienced in Facebook marketing yet you are asking where to generate web design leads?

Newsflash: the majority of business owners are on Facebook. Are you currently generating leads via FB? If not, why not?

No offense, but where did you find this client that hired someone to generate leads that doesn't know how to generate leads.

That would be like me taking on a landscaping or home remodeling project and then trying to figure it out.

Even though you haven't taken any money yet you are wasting that company's time. That's the same as money.

Do them and yourself a favor and pass on the "job" and let them find someone that can actually help while you learn as much as possible about lead gen on your own time and not someone else's.

There is no magic formula that will work. You have to test. Even if someone said, "Hey, try XXXXX," you can't expect to throw up an ad and watch the leads pour in.

Has this client given you a large budget to test with?

I never want to discourage someone from trying to make it as an entrepreneur, so give me as much information as possible...

**What kind of budget are you working with.
    **Where is this client located.
**What service are they looking to generate leads for (app dev, web design, etc.)
**What the average life-time-value of their typical clients is

...and I will try to help you come up with some creative ideas.

Thanks for your honesty. This is actually my first web design client, so I'm trying to test different sources and I was wondering if there were any other sources that are just as effective as Facebook. For Facebook I usually stick to traditional marketing, but I would consider trying Facebook ads. I may not have a lot of experience, but I'm willing to try anything to provide the most targeted leads that I possibly can. My client's monthly budget is $3,000, he's located in India and he does web and mobile app development.

    Use OPT-IN PAGE

Use Facebook Ads for delivering traffic to the opt-in page.

Use two-step confirmation so you can have more quality leads.

    Rinse and repeat.
