I know what SEO is and I could say that from the plugin name.. but what does it change to your blog? Permalinks? Post names? Categories?

Edit: I think you edited your post, I saw only a part of it first time...

                    No worries

My input for this topic: I'm using "Social Bookmarks". You can configure it to show what ever buttons you need at the end of your posts to share with others.

                    Check it out.

A couple that haven't been mentioned that I'm using

                      1. "What Would Seth Godin Do?"

Prompts new visitors to subscribe to your RSS feed. I've seen a definite up-tick in subscriptions.

                      2. WPVideo

Makes embedding YouTube et.al videos into a blog post a real snap.

                      Cheers.

The thing with plugins is there is no one-size-fits-all approach. It's even tough to generalize because plugins cater to different experience levels and many are just productivity tools that aren't needed for most folks.

Another problem is the kitchen sink mentality. If you see what happens under the covers in Wordpress, you'd probably trim down your plugin list!

But there are some that I think are universal:

                        Google Sitemap Generator
                        WP DB Backup
                        Share This
                        cForms
                        The aforementioned All-in-One SEO Pack
WP-Cache (or WP Super Cache) - only activate for traffic spikes

I group my plugins into batches, so e.g. I have a batch that contains 4 plugins that I use on blogs where comments are important. Then I can upload in one batch. Similar with video or photos. But the above is what I consider an "every blog" list.

I ignored commercial plugins in this list -- I'd guess that 50% of the plugins I use are commercial.

                        Shaun

        For SEO

        All In One SEO
        Google Sitemap
Cystats or better yet just use google analytics with Google Analyticator
        Link Cloaking Plugin

My favorite out of the box template is cutline

Better yet these are all free and some of the authors request a donation. The ones that do me well I usually offer up a free beer or two.

The one that I think is pretty good is one called Cryptograph. Basically it adds a capture form to any comments etc so only real people can post which saves heaps on spam and rubbish coming through.

Another one I like is My Page Order which allows me to move pages around within wordpress.

Here is a list of some of the other ones I like.

I use to be into adding all the cool plug-ins, but have started to go the other direction, using only what I have to. Get to many plug-ins it can bloat WP and slow it down, ad to much un-needed code, ect. As for SEO, I've just SEO'ed my themes, never really saw a need for a plug-in. Just me I guess..

One word of warning, some plug-ins, like social bookmarks, can actually do more harm than good. Some of them add a ton of code, can hurt your SEO.
