I agree with both of the above posts.

Another thing I'd like to add is that if you're willing to invest some money (which you should be because having a responsive list is very lucrative), then try this method.

Search for your main keywords on Google and check out both the natural and sponsored results.

If any of those sites are capturing names and e-mails then they have a list

Put there domain name into Better Whois: The WHOIS domain search that works with all registrars. or Domain Tools: Whois Lookup and Domain Suggestions and find their e-mail address. (Some people also include contact info on the bottom of their web pages).

Send them an e-mail saying that you would like to buy a solo ad to be e-mailed out to there list and ask them how many people are on their list and what they would charge you. Don't be afraid to bargain with them and get the lowest price possible. If there isn't at least a few thousand people on their list, don't bother.

Once you've come to an agreement, make sure you type up a compelling e-mail that will get good CTR (click thru rate) and send people to a squeeze page where you capture their name and e-mail.

Don't be afraid to give something really valuable away for free, because you can make a lot more money on the backend with your list.

Built a list of over 2,000,000 in one niche (google content network). Secret is tons of traffic, preferably cheap, and a killer optin conversion rate. At the time mine was 35% on cold traffic.

Few more things I haven't seen mentioned that work well when done right - Adswaps, joint ventures and giveaways. All three can build up your list relatively quick.

2Million? err.... I just only have less 2 hundred in list.. I Need to keep work harder :-)

If you have a really good product you are prepared to give 100% commission on, why not ask the guy with 2million on his list if he would like to market it for you.

He gets all the profit and you get the list.

Even @ 1% purchase that's 20,000 sales.

Even if he only charges $10 for the product he gets $200k and you get a great big list of
people who are prepared to put their hands in the wallets.

Here is the secret.. building a huge list which responds well takes time and alot of work. Provide the best value possible to your list and give them the ability to invite their friends to join your list.

I rather create a small highly responsive list of buyers then spend the time working on creating a huge list.
