Clickbank hop ID visible?

12 replies
Hi guys,
I dont use clickbank but one of my clients asked how to make sure that her clickbank page won't show this thingy attached to URL -> ?hop=blah123
?
I know framing is against TOS - so whats' legitimate ways to avoid it?

    I'm a little confused...it looks like you have an affiliate link cloaker available in your sig...does it not work for CB affiliates?

      I think he means when you visit a sales page the url says domain.com/aff-link
      and everyone is able to see your clickbank id.

      The only way I know of how to hide it is by cloaking your own domain
      with the sales page.

    It give you tools to hide affiliate links and make redirects google-safe on your local pages. Aflinker doesn't do framing for destination URL's. That would be misservice to affiliates as that is against TOS, will cause detection, loss of commissions and account termination. That's consensus.

    I believe that if someone clicks your link, you can legitimately (even within CB's TOS) "stuff the cookie" -- after all, they HAVE clicked on your link, so would land on the page. The only thing you do is pre-stuff the cookie so you don't end up with the affiliate id in the URL.

    There are affliate link cloaking softwares that do this.

      The one I use (for every CB product I promote) is to buy a dot-info domain-name ($1 at GoDaddy) and forward it with masking to my hoplink...
      Yes, but once person ended up into the destination salesletter - affiliate's hop ID is still visible at browser address bar?

          I believe some CB vendors do not allow this.

          On the order page, after the sales page, your affiliate ID will be shown at the bottom, but there isn't a way to get paid without that appearing (and sometimes it's difficult enough even when it does :rolleyes: ).

      Good advice Alexa. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks Alexa,
    I sent a link to this thread to the client - hopefully she'll be able to pick up few ideas.

    Hi Gleb,

    This is easy to do with a little bit of Javascript. All she has to do is insert the following code into the <head> section of her webpage, and replace "www.yourwebsite.com" with the actual URL of her webpage...

    HTML Code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
    var yourdomain="http://www.yourwebsite.com";
    var url=top.location.toString();
    if(url.indexOf('hop')>-1){
       top.location.href=yourdomain;
    }
    </script>
    Basically what it does is check to see if "hop" is found in anywhere in the URL in the address bar from an incoming link, and if so, it changes what is displayed in the address bar to the regular website URL.

    I'm surprised more CB vendors don't do this, as it most definitely reduces commission theft.
