I would like to find information about a site not owned by me

info I would like to find out is

when was the website started
approximately how many visits it gets on a day
where r the visitors from
where and how does the website advertise
etc. etc.

basically i am trying to learn as much as I can about my competitors

is this possible? and if it is how?

Some of it is easier than other parts! You might want to use tools such as:

Domain Tools: Whois Lookup and Domain Suggestions - WhoIs lookup for who owns the site, when the domain was first registered, where it is hosted etc.

Alexa the Web Information Company - depending on the size of the site, you might get some rough info about popularity/visitors.

Site Explorer - Yahoo! Site Explorer - You can find out who is linking to the site here, might show some places they are advertising.

There are other more in-depth, paid tools too, but I've never felt the need for them personally.

SEOQuake toolbar for Firefox, along with what pages are indexed in the search engines, keyword density, alexa rankings, all sorts of nifty info.

approximately how many visits it gets on a day
Kind of hard to tell really. If it ranks on alexa, alexa will tell you. If it doesn't, you have to look at the awstats or server logs for the machine hosting the website. I'm not sure if there's a clone to alexa that monitors traffic levels below what they do.

      where r the visitors from
without IP addresses of visitors, you won't know where they reside. You CAN reasonably tell how they're finding the website in question though. Try this search in google: link: warriorforum.com

where and how does the website advertise
The link: search would show results from banners ads & links from other sites. Won't show you much from email, text, direct access..etc etc.

      That's what I know...

Quantcast seems to really only work for the much larger sites

Analysis on your rivals really makes a part. You should also pay more attention to build
your own advantage and make you distinctive.Or you will never succeed even if you're
familiar with your competitors.Customer needs what they requires. Those guys who can
always satisfy them will own them forever.

I've just installed SEOQuake and am running Firefox 3.5.3 and it apparently isn't working. I've got the icon on my tool bar and when I do a query for any keywords I think of and go to click on the icon to get data, nothing happens!

Can't find anything relevant on the SEOQuake site, so if anyone has ran into this problem and got it to work, I'd appreciate some assistance if possible.

      Thanks!
