New Alertpay Instant Mass Pay Proposal - Good or Bad? Cast Your Vote!

Hello Warriors,

Seeing Mike Filsaime's recent post about paypal's instant mass pay, inspired me to share this post.

For those of you who missed it, Mike mentioned Paypal is going to be supporting instant mass payments. In other words, you make one payment, and it automatically splits it into multiple accounts.

I found this timely as I just had the same idea a few months back - how cool it would be for an instant mass pay feature with Alertpay. I finally got around to emailing them my idea just 5 days ago - Nov. 8th.

Here is my email to paypal (edited for brevity here)

"My name is Jim Symonds, and I have been a loyal Alertpay customer for years. I love your service!

I have an important business proposal I hope you will embrace. This is not a solicitation. It's a business development plan, for a new Mass pay IPN function, which will explode Alertpay sales.

Before I continue you should know I am responsible (indirectly) for untold thousands of dollars passing through Alertpay.

That is because I created the software that runs many of the most popular network marketing affiliate programs online today.

Program members love my software, because we allow and facilitate instant member to member payments, using Alertpay (among other processor options).

When a new member joins a program, they typically pay their referring sponsor, and the admin. Most companies use 2-up programs, not only for the power of the compensation plan model, but also since it limits the number of people who need to be paid.

Many times clients come to me, wishing to pay on 5 levels deep (or more) in their comp plan. This presents a problem, since asking new members to pay 5 or (6 including the admin) different people, is asking them to "jump through a lot of hoops" to join a program. It isn't practical.

The current alternative is not attractive either - the admin taking the money and paying out affiliates later. It puts the admin in the position of becoming a banker, and possibly having to deal with 1099 forms, and more work and responsibility than they would like to have.

What I propose is this - create a mass pay Alertpay payment IPN / link, which can pay unlimited Alertpay users at once.

We would simply pass on the data - The program name, and admin's IPN URL, the email address of each Alertpay user, along with the exact amount of the payment they should get, and payment type (one time or recurring, number of days), etc..

Your team writes code to accept this payment, and deposits the money into all the correct accounts, and the only Alertpay IPN URL that is required, is the administrator's.

Not only will this new IPN masspay addition result in massive excess business, it will almost surely cut down on support requests, from confused users, having trouble setting up their Alertpay IPN URLs, since they would no longer need this!

Now, all the members would need to do is put their Alertpay email in their profile, and POOF! They're DONE!

Example - a program pays 5 levels deep, $5 per level, plus $5 for the admin. Total program cost $30. The user pays $30 via ONE Alertpay payment link (instead of 6), and on your end, you take the $30, and put $5 into each member's account.

Even in programs that only pay one or two people, this function would clearly cut your support tickets down considerably, and would be more than worth your development costs for that one aspect, alone.

I hope you will strongly consider my idea, as I believe this will facilitate even more growth for Alertpay!

Jim Symonds"

I Sent this Nov 8th, and have yet to hear back.

I thought posting it here, as an open letter / poll, may spark more some interest, and put the heat on.

So what do you think Warriors?

Is this a good idea, yea or nay?

Cast your vote below, with your reasons, and if you're for it, please consider forwarding this thread to Alertpay.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Well, looking at it from ALL sides, I would have to say NO!

Am I the ONLY one that doesn't think this is a novel idea, etc...? Do you REALLY think nobody thought of this before? Clickbank handles what they DO do through a number of rules, as does paypal. I guess paypal just wants to again push the envelope to try to get more marketshare. SURE vendors figure less paperwork and affiliates figure quicker payment, but I have to wonder about refunds. And paypal has gotten a LOT of bad press about freezing accounts as it IS.

      Steve,

      Thanks for your thoughts.

As with any such implementation, a lot of careful thought and consideration must go into it. I'm sure there will be a number of safeguards to protect the bottom line.

Such as - Alert the payer at the time of purchase, how the payment is going to be split up, and to whom it will be paid.

Send the payer a receipt listing the same information, or perhaps multiple receipts (one per person paid).

I strongly believe that done right, it would not affect the current refund / charge back rate in any significant way.

At any rate, I believe the value far outweighs any negative impact.

      Regards,
      Jim
