Newbie Question, Launching First Ecommerce site.

Hello All. I'm getting ready to launch my first ever ecommerce website, and am trying to figure out how to approach creating my first ad campaign. My store offers clothing to people who have Tourette syndrome (which I have) and is a way for them to announce to others that they have the condition.

(sorry - links not permitted in posts - moderator)

I was told that I need to use a "landing page," and am wondering if a link directly to one of my WooCommerce product pages would be that?

Congratulations on launching your ecommerce website!

Creating a successful ad campaign is crucial for driving traffic to your site and making sales.

A landing page is a standalone web page created specifically for a marketing or advertising campaign.

Its purpose is to prompt visitors to take a specific action, such as making a purchase, signing up for a newsletter, or filling out a form.

You could use a WooCommerce product page, this may be a good option and would be less complicated but it could cost a bit more than a standalone one and you may have less control over a standalone one.

I would start off with the WooCommerce one and then if it is successful think about creating your own standalone, where you have more control.

Or you could use a dedicated landing page of your own.

Experiment with different approaches and continuously refine your strategies based on performance data. Good luck with your new project!

    Kind Regards

It depends upon who told you that you need a landing page and
what the purpose for it would be.

Your landing page could be a separate site or it could be part of
your existing ecommerce site, again, it depends upon what you
are trying to achieve with it.

Unless your ad network has given you an instruction, you should
set things up in the manner that works best for your strategy.

If you don't have a specific reason for this landing page, you
    should probably forego it.

Thanks for this. My purpose is to sell the first products, to get a sense of the market for what I have to offer. From there my plan is to develop a strategy based on the results of the initial campaign. Nobody has done anything like this before and I have no idea if people will be in the least bit interested in purchasing my products. So, I don't want to spend a whole lot of money with brand awareness type strategies, until I have at least some idea of the potential.

BRAND is for your social media accounts... not in actually Ad type sales... run an ad display a single product... sell that product - you stray from this and things get ugly.

An ad that is "Check out <insert Brand> Tshirts" is an epic fail - pure and simple

Brand is the name of the site. Brand is the name of your social accounts. Brand is an awareness and NOT a product... dont sell Brand, sell products - that happen to be your Brand.

Do a search on Google for a "blah blah blah t shirt" you immediately see the top row filled with shopping ads - click ANY of them and where do they go? The product buy now page.

This makes sense. Simple and direct, straight to the product page, where they can make the purchase without getting sidetracked.

You probably need to do some market research and testing
and this could consist of a landing page that features a poll
and/or questionnaire, or you could use different pages within
your site as landers to see which ones get the best results,
or combinations thereof. You can set up multiple landers,
        not just one.

If you have no idea whether people would be interested in
your products at all, then do a market analysis on whether
there are enough people with this condition to make your
efforts profitable, or whether you need to include additional
        ailments.

        Here's some info:

There are some Tourette syndrome related products at
Amazon, things like t-shirts and supplements.

I can't post links but you should search on Amazon to
see whether your products are in demand.

Yes I've seen a range of products in different places, Etsy, Amazon, Redbubble and others. Anyway my project is up and running, and the next step is to test out MY t-shirts.

Not so basic 101 for e-commerce. IF you are running an ad, you should be running the ad for a specific product... Lets say "shirt X" You want the traffic from that ad to go to its own specific page and NOT the same page you would goto if you were in your store.

So let me clarify that for you ( and anyone else reading ) You goto your site and you navigate to the "Shirt X" page... this page is specific to anyone on the store. When you run Ads you want to be able to track specifically the sales from that ad. So you will want to create a "2nd" Product page for "Shirt X" that the traffic for the ad will land on.

IF you are running multiple ads... Shirt X for Men, Shirt X for Women, Shirt X for Kids... you will want to have specific landing pages for each and every one of those.

So the landing pages... YES you can send them right to the specific product page again this example "Shirt X" People see an ad... they say "Oh I like that" you want to ensure they land on what they clicked to buy - you dont want them having to look for it, just get it and done. This is what might be called reducing friction in the buying process, the more clicks it takes to buy something the more likely you will lose the sale.

Places you do NOT want to send ad Traffic - Your Home page - just a real bad idea. For e-commerce a Category page is still on the NO NO list. To a page that is about the "Shirt X" but you would have to click to another page to buy "Shirt X"

You want the flow from ad to Lander to purchase. Click Ad, Land on page, Click buy now

Hope that Helps! and any more questions - ask away.

This is super helpful. And I like it because it will help me with my goal: To research if people are going to buy my stuff or not. Simple. Then later I can work on other aspects.

    Hi,
you have said that you are not sure if your products will sell yet.

It may be best to try and sell them on another site first to avoid the cost and time of setting up your own website.

Hi there! Opting for a dedicated landing page, fine-tuned for conversions, may generate superior outcomes compared to linking directly to a WooCommerce product page. It's worth crafting a landing page that caters to the specific needs and preferences of your target audience.

Landing pages do not replace your existing promotional model, such as product catalogs. They server as an additional way to capture attention and prompt potential customers to act. So don't think of landing pages as an alternative. Instead, think of them as an addition.
