Better Option To Attract More Affiliates

INTERNET MARKETING

I run an affiliate program for my Print On Demand line of sites. Due to the success that I have had I crunched the numbers and found out I can offer even more of the money to the affiliates.

I currently offer 15% commission. I figured out I can raise the commission on sales to 20%.

Do you think it would be better to raise the commission rate to 20% or add a second tier with a 5% override to the referring affiliate?

I originally wanted to stay away from a 2 tier program because it always seems to me that affiliates then just try to refer other affiliates instead of trying to sell the products.

Any opinions or suggestions?

Add a second tier. Most affiliate program directories look for affiliate offers with 2 tier programs. A 2nd tier will result in more affiliates finding your program - you will have a sales force not just promoting your products, but also recruiting other partners into your program.

  15%-20% commission rate is too low to attract affiliates.
  
  50% or above commission rates attract more affiliates.

  15% as affiliate commission? I don't even join those affiliate programs. I wonder how you successed in that.

When you're selling real products that have a cost per unit to produce you can't pay 75% commissions. Those kind of commissions are only possible with entirely digital offerings.

For everyone scoffing at "only" 15% payout go check out commission junction and see all of the products on there that have these "low" commission structures. Also consider places like Amazon and Ebay.

I would like to take the time to thank everyone for responding to my question.

I have been researching this all day. I'm now leaning towards paying to get the program listed on Share A Sale. I might raise the commission to 17% and use the other 3% to pay Share A Sale their cut.
