What Do You Think Of Longer Thread Titles?

I remember at the old forum, I would sometimes want to create a thread
title that was beyond the forum capabilities and had to find a workaround.

Now that I see that forum titles can be a lot longer, I am also finding that
for me, personally, I don't have the patience to read some of these really
long titles. I like when people get to the point.

How do you feel about it? Do you like the longer titles? Do you think some
of them are too wordy? Does it not matter to you at all?

Just curious to how other people feel about it because I tend to skip over
the longer titles.

      It all depends what LONGER means...

      My vote was CCL, just because it's not the length, but the message
      that's important.

      If it says what it needs to say, then it does its job.

        The length doesn't really worry me but some titles are totally misleading and off the topic of the post just to get people to open the post - and that bugs me, sometimes.

          Longer is a relative term. Sometimes at the old forum it was difficult to convey your point.
          But titles should still be kept as short as possible to convey what you're trying to say.

          Short titles are an excelent exercise in copywriting, but since I'm usually asking for help rather than trying to sell, I don't feel to bad if they don't get noticed

              I've never liked threads that don't get to the point in the title, especially really short ones like 'Help!', which say nothing at all (or worse, 'Help, I'm thick!' *shudder), and I usually just pass over them if there's no indication of what's inside, even though I'd probably be happy to help.

              However, I think that if people don't realise that they should be getting to the point in the title then they'll probably just waffle on about nothing for longer, so I'm not fussed about the length of the titles either way.

              Size isn't important. It's what you can do with what you're given that counts

                In a close community like this, I personally tend to watch who the thread starter is more so than the title.

                Kind of the same goes for the email subjects I receive, I open ones from I want to hear the most. I think the last Frank Kern's email subject was "DUH!" or something like that and I opened it as I normally would.

                  I just enjoy titles that are descriptive enough to know what the thread is about. That won't be much of a problem now that you can see the first few lines of the thread by hovering your mouse over the title. That alone is a huge improvement to the WF.
