Cameron Johnson, how did he make his money...

A few months ago I read an article about the young entrepreneur Cameron Johnson who was the founder and CEO of surfingprizes.com. For those who do not know surfingprizes was a very simple model that paid visitors for their time spend surfing the web. What I do not understand and am very curious about is how it was monetized. Does anyone have any idea how Cameron could have monetized this website? There had to be some way for him to make a profit otherwise he wouldn't pay people just for surfing the web..any ideas? Or does anyone know an interview or something where I can go to find this information?

    See that's the thing. I honestly don't think it was that. He sold surfing prizes for a HUGE sum of money. For that to happen it would have to have a very reliable model and selling traffic just doesn't seem to have that in my opinion.

    This was a VERY long time ago, when a lot of people were just breaking into various internet & online avenues. He simply sold advertising space on the site & was able to show VIABLE buyers of businesses that his site was worth something as well as the ability to make it grow. However, the problem was it was never really sustainable. It was a "GET IN & GET OUT" opportunity for Cameron, and the person who bought most likely wasn't able to duplicate their success.

    It's best to find entrepreneurs who are successful to a high level within the last 2 years only. I wouldn't even go as far as say 3 years. Things have changed a lot since then & what worked then isn't really a model to go after. Yes, they are many who have been doing this stuff for 3 or more years that you can follow, however, the problem is, in my opinion, there teaching methods is what they did 10 years ago, and NOT very effective to people in beginning stages. They are effective for people in stages already at a certain level of knowledge & business.
