I'm not sure what's going on. I have a site that's been on page 1 for 2 months and yesterday it disappeared from the top 100 pages for google.com... I checked google.ca (I'm in Canada) and it was still on the top page. Maybe the new google is on .com and my page doesn't meet the fresh content standards? (although I've added to the site, I have not changed the home page).

Have to wait and see... but I hate that we are not getting firm dates. Will the big G inform the public when it is all live?

      Don't worry, buddy.

I'm in Canada too and this morning a new site I'm building was no wheres to be seen (which was a little odd). I was a little concerned and went to the Canadian listings to check it out and it was still there.

Now, four hours or so later, the site is back up where it's supposed to be in the US.

Anytime a new algo comes in sites go crazy. Google's algo is constantly updating. Last year there were 300 minor changes made to it - they may say when Caffeine is all rolled out. But knowing Google they probably won't.

Just keep on doing your thing and the site will pop back up.

I've heard that caffeine will depend more on page load speed than backlinks.

I don't think it makes much sense, though. It would mean the death of sites with a lot of graphics and features on them, wouldn't it?

Today, my article did fall from page 2 to page 6, but it's new and I've been backlinking, so I just assumed it was one of those deals where it jumps down, then up when backlinking.

No, that's not true. Yes, page load speeds are important with this update but that is just one factor in a whole bunch of others. You should certainly pay lots of attention to how quickly your pages load but "Good" backlinks are as important now as they have always been.

Go to your webmaster tools account and check out the advice there. Get the firefox addons firebug and page speed to test your page load times and recommendations.

The general reaction around here has been: "When In Danger, When In Doubt, Run In Circles, Scream And Shout"

What else could we do? Find a solution to problems, and find out how to succeed and grow?!?!

Complaining on a forum is much more productive.

Maybe... or maybe some come here to learn and help solve their problems by learning from others rather than running around like headless chickens.

The one thing you can always count on is that people will go wild whenever Google changes something. I fully expect the threads to be overtaken shortly with lots of hand wringing and whining. Popcorn is at the ready!
