Can anyone aside from the" Great and Powerful Oz " answer this ?

In my niche there are some competitors that are in the Google ten pack listing and the corresponding Yahoo and MSN ten pack local listings. These competitors have not moved for over 6 months and as some of you might have guessed I can not figure out what it takes to get into one of these spots let alone stay there for such an extended period. I have created local listing accounts with each of the three major SE's all created 100 %, verified, claimed as well as creating accounts with literally hundreds of other " local " listing providers. I have been utilizing Angela's, Paul Johnson's, Steve Ayler's, Terry Kyle's and others back linking products. My site is very simple and easy to navigate
( according to past customers and other IM ). I have had the domain for two years but have only started link building and creating local accounts in the last 6 months. Am I being impatient, is there a " secret " or have I overlooked something ? I have investigated some of my competitors and some of them don't even have a website but rank higher than I do for the same keywords. Can anyone provide insight into how to attain a listing in the Google, Yahoo, and MSN " 10 pack listing ? Lost in
OZ .......

I'm sure somebody here can help, but you may want to retype your post as it's very difficult to read.

Break it down into small chunks.

In answer to your question, what are you competitors doing in terms or site optimization / back linking. Try to do some home work on these sites, it could be that they have a good bunch of links from some place that relevant to your market.

What type of content is on these other sites? can you reproduce similar content, what are your customer searching for?

WHAMSOFT - THANKS - some of my competitors are much older than me some are not; as I mentioned some do not even have a website.

I am by no means an SEO expert, but I do have some experience in backlinking with Angela's and Paul's packets.

I think that the "secret" to backlinking (and SEO in general) is patience. Your competitors have probably been working at this for years, so you cannot expect to displace them immediately.

As long as your keywords are not too impossible, I would encourage you to keep on working at it. Over time, you are likely to get results.

Please let me know if this helps!

      Nate,
      Thanks.
Some of them have some of them haven't - I know them personally - which is what makes this even more perplexing.

What are the stats on the 10 pack? Do you have something like market samaurai where you can see how many backlinks each has and where the links are coming from?

Where are you exactly? what page?

Here would be my plan of attack. See who is the low man on the totem pole, and work to knock him out first.

It can take longer than 6 months depending on the niche, but you should creep in on them one by one for attack.

I'd build a second level of domains under my primary domain with KW rich domains. Each of those would get 3 articles a week, get RSS submitted, bookmarked, etc.

Main domain needs a full blanket of Ezine articles, other article directories, Videos, social bookmarking, press releases, web 2.0 sites, etc.

        Sprinkle in a few linkwheels.

Ok, you have 10 minutes. get er done.

Honestly, take the low man and if you can beat him out you are on your way.

It all boils down to being one step ahead of the guy in front of you.

If you are using Firefox browser go get SEO Quake. A free add that you can use to view more detailed information about those sites.

It will show you the age, PR, backlinks, and other SEO information about them.

From that, you will be able to determine if you can compete with them and where to concentrate your efforts.

For instance, if you find one of them has plenty of backlinks but they are all low PR links coming in and you have access to higher level links then it might make it worth your while to do a major backlink campaign specifically for that one site.

Remember though, that they can do it too and you are back to battling.

The real question should be is it worth it (profit to be made) from the work, time, or money invested to compete.

In business, your ROI (Return On Investment) should guide you.
