I am nearing retirement age but do not have sufficient funds to retire. I am an internet novice, but am very intrigued by the possibility of earning extra money by being involved in affiliate marketing. I have done some reading on the subject, but frankly am confused. I don't mind putting in the time on this, but not sure where to begin. It seems that everyone is trying to sell their book as being the best way to ensure results. My question is simple. How do you know which book to buy?

In my research on the subject I also saw that there seems to be at least five ways to promote companies as an affiliate marketer....through Opt in email marketing, through writing articles and posting them on various sites, but posting ads to classified sites such as Craig's list, by posting to ad directories and by listing on search engines. My question: Should you do all of these at once, should you do one or two at a time, how many companies should you promote at one time, etc. As I said, all of this is very new to me so any quidance you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

All the different methods you talk of are about getting traffic to your affiliate offers to make sales. I would start with 1 master it a little, then go on to the next one (but obviously keep doing the ones that work too). You should sign up for Allan Gardyne's excellent Associate programs free affiliate newsletter. Just google it for details. Hope this helps.

    in broad terms......

using a freebie as bait, you drive visitors to a sign-up page to get them on your list, for two reasons - 1 - for future back-end sales, and 2- because the average person only buys after 5 to 7 contacts.

the visitor is taken to, or in follow-up emails referred to, a pre-sell page, where the visitor learns about the benefits, and / or how the product or service solves a problem.

from there it leads to the sales page.

there are many ways to rive traffic to your sig-up, or "squeeze page" as we call it. you can experiment and see what works best for you.

how many projects you can run at once depends on you. for the beginning it's best not to try and do too much. many newbies (including myself), ended up chasing after new things, trying to do everything at once, and eventually getting nothing done. ease into it.

i would suggest to google for giveaway events. professional marketers regularly hold such events, giving away books in return for your email address. just get a separate mailbox if you sign up to too many lists at once. you will find a lot of good information for free.

by the time you have worked through a few of them, you will see certain similarities. those are the techniques that actually work.

    hope this helps.

    Thank you

First comment, welcome to this forum.

Second comment, at your age, nearing retirement, you are an individual with considerable experience already. So, what would you do if you were asked your own question?

Would YOU do all of them at once?
How many companies would you promote at one time?
Do you really want to be posting ads?
    Can you write articles?
Do you even like writing articles, or do you see that as a chore?

Third comment, and to be honest this is the one I struggle with.

    What do you love?

Not that I don't love, it's that I do love too many things! ergo, I am not focussed. In order to make true income, one really does have to be focussed on that one ultimate goal.
    (sad but true)

So my advice would be to do this. (and I am not an atourney! disclaimer goes here!)

"Do what you love, pass that love along and the money will manifest itself to you. "

Hope that helps in some way.

    Kindest regards,

    Janet

Welcome to the forum 66gael. This is the best advice
"Do what you love, pass that love along and the money will manifest itself to you. "
If you follow your passion and persist in doing just that you will succeed. Try writing an e-book yourself instead of just reading them. What do you know, what can you teach, what advice can you give?

I am sure you will work it out

    God bless
