Keyword Research Discrepancies
I got asked an interesting question today regarding keyword research.
Specifically, the differences in localized versions of Google when searching on things like competition.
This person is trying to set up a blog and target a specific keyword and is doing keyword and competing pages research.
I already know that different keyword tools return different search results but I am more interested in the differences of competing pages using localised versions of Google.
Here is the question I was asked, just be interested in your thoughts on this guys:
As you know google automatically loads the localized page, depending on what location you're in. I, for instance, am in The Netherlands. So, when I type in www.google.com, it will automatically load www.google.nl. As far as I know there is no way to change this.
The localized version of google gives back different search results as the "normal" (.com) version. Since it would be the best thing to target the US-market with my blog, especially when promoting clickbank stuff, there might be a problem for me.
When I am doing a competing pages search, the number of competing pages might be completely different in the Dutch google version as in the US google version. I might choose the wrong keywords, and will not achieve high ranking with my blog pages.
I've also downloaded the trial version of Keyword Elite and the software does seem to target the US version of google. Here's how I know;
Using the phrase "stupid pick up lines" in www.google.nl, yields 35,500 competing pages.
Keyword Elite comes up with 314,000 competing pages.
