Security Software and splyware recommendations?

I need to get some new security software and spyware software on my computer. Looking for recommendations?

I would love to know what free stuff is out there that works well? I had a friend who mentioned that he only uses the free stuff and it works great. (Can't find his contact info now???)

Anyways any advice you guys have would be great.

Thanks,

Matt

Malwarebytes is my number one must have. It detects almost all malware. The free version isn't pro-active, you have to open it up, tell it to update and tell it to scan your computer but it's the best malware detection program I know.

For anti-virus you could use Avast or AVG - but just be aware that the free editions are intended for home use. Avast is (I think, anyway) lighter on memory usage than AVG and has an excellent detection rate.

I use Comodo as it is free anti virus and free firewall. AVG is my second choice.

Malwarebytes is a great program, followed with Adaware and then Spybot: Search and Destroy

All have legit free versions, though the AVG one can be hard to find sometimes.
