Ask Not What Your Product Creator Can Do For You...

Many info product buyers complain that products are nothing but rehashed
crap.

While this may or may not be true (don't even want to go there) why not,
instead of just complaining about the problem, do something about it.

How?

Simple.

Get together as a group, or individually if you can't agree, and tell these
product creators what you want.

There are many ways to do this, since most of these product creators
follow what's going on online themselves.

1. Put up a blog
2. Make a video
3. Tweet about it
4. Write articles

If enough people actually did this, maybe product creators could start
creating the types of products that you want provided that they are
feasible.

And therein lies the rub.

Sometimes what somebody wants, especially a new person, isn't feasible
for one of two reasons.

1. The cost involved.
2. Not enough market demand.

But the point is, if you're not happy with what product creators are giving
you, then it's time to open up your mouth and tell them.

Otherwise, they will never know.

That's my 2 cents on this subject.

What do you think?

Am I onto something or just daft as usual?

Haha, I think youre on to something, but then how can I go against a fellow Dirty Jersey-er. In truth, I think many of the great product owners do their research and find out what the customers want and this prepares the products for great success.

Unfortunately, too many people create products with a transaction mindset, they are trying to make a quick buck so they just consolidate a bunch of information everybody already knows and put up a convincing salesletter.

In general I think more than ever, customers want products that focus on the HOW more than the WHAT, particularly in the bizz opp space. Customers want actionable steps to take, not broad level answers to what questions.

All in all, YES, I think your on to something!

    Steven,
    I keep hearing this pitch:
The best way to know what your customers want is to ask them, do a survey, take a poll, find out what they really want and give it to them.

    Market research at its best.

And I honestly think its a good idea too, knowing what your prospects REALLY want, and I think smart guys do this as well not just talk about it.

When somebody complains that the product is nothing but a recycled information, its because the product creator did not do a fine job researching what their prospects were really looking for.

But then again you can't make everyone happy.

What you are saying makes sense in the IM niche because there is a constant stream of rapid buyers who are always looking to buy the next big thing, and I have been a victim to this myself.

People are looking for systems, and a step by step answer to their problems, and many times the product creator's step by step plan doesn't resonate with the consumer's, so they don't like it.

But if you really think about it everything is recycled, I could sum up a weight loss product in one line: Proper diet and exercise

    IM: Offer+Traffic=Money

So we could easily run out of ideas we if think like this, and most of the products(if not all ) are derived from these root fundamentals, the product creator's job is to present the idea in his own unique way making his/her offer stand out from the crowd, by that I don't mean they should use a fancy copy to confuse their prospects, but actually be unique and authentic.

If everyone did that( in a perfect world) everyone would win, the product creator would feel proud for creating a unique product, the consumers would be happy because they found something unique and original.

But we don't live in a perfect world do we?

I think people don't do anything when they buy another recycled info product(other than simply ranting about it) is because it takes time and energy, getting together, starting a blog and talking about this stuff requires initiative, and we all need a leader.

Most People don't lead, they just want to be lead.

    My 2 cents

Hey Steve great idea! You could also just directly contact the product creator through e mail and give them your feedback. I think a lot of people who create products would love feed back and ideas of what to come up with next.

if was developing a product (of which i am not) i would not develop the car (the vehicle) to riches, but instead build the toll gate every car must pass in order to travel the the road.

to product creation just simple paint by numbers proven ways that work, covered in quality should do well as there seems to be many lower quality products out there

Seriously .. doubt that in force we would agree on anything.

and not very sure that product creators would listen. The ones that throw out rehased garbage do so because that's the path of least resistance ... the easiest buck to me made.

Do you think that the products would all of a sudden become high quality and very useful if they read that is what we want? How could they possibly not already know that is what the average buyer wants?

I'd rather vote with my money and simply do what I do now and hit the order button sparingly.
