I have a ? on Twitter Direct Messaging

Hello,

I have not used direct messaging on my twitter account as yet but receive a lot from my different twitter account. I want to know from those that use direct messages from Twitter please.

1) When I receive a email with the direct message although the email is in html the URL in the message although it is complete in the correct format cannot be clicked but you would have to copy and paste he link

2) There is a direct message link below (that you can click) but I have to login into my Twitter account first but when I do it doesn't go directly to the direct message

My final ? is do people respond to direct messages this way (I don't) and is it worth doing this.

I did a new website on a new domain with a new twitter account. I do 2 tweets a day and get +- 35 visitors a day so it does bring traffic to the site.

Any advice welcome

I reply to non-spam direct messages. A number of friends and fellow marketers do send the occasional DM, and we comm back and forth that way.

However, those who use DMs to spam new followers with auto-messages to sell them something, get mainly ignored. However, if you use it to give something away, it can be more effective.

  • Think of the Twitter DM as the equivalent of subscribing to the mailing lists (auto-responders) of all of the people you follow. Many of them will send you a 'thank you' DM - sometimes with a promotion link - which gets sent to you as an email as well (if you have it set in your notification preferences). You may want to separate these from the valuable DMs that some may send just as you would in your email inbox.
