What throws a Sales Page off?

Hey guys,

I am just wondering what throws a Sales Page off for you guys. I am working on one right now, and I'm looking for ways to improve. I haven't made it live yet, so I can't see how well it is doing, but after I keep looking at other products, I get new ideas.

I know a lot of sites have a pop-up box which is an opt-in that goes down with you every time you scroll the page. Those are really annoying for me. Do they even work?

Another one is when you close the page, and it comes up with that annoying box telling you to "WAIT! Don't Leave Yet".

Are those two things I should avoid, or try out?

The URL for my sales page:
Fail-Proof Marketing by Leon Rawitz

Any other tips and comments on how to improve would be greatly appreciated. Even the good things about the page I would love to hear. But like the Thread Title, what absolutely throws you off where you close out right away?

Thanks!

A header built around a picture of a fake book.

Nobody really wants to buy a ebook. Real books are kind of
interesting for book lovers to handle, but I don't think
showing a picture of a faux book helps here.

Tom Antion, who's been around for awhile in IM, shared
a tip awhile back that on his higher-ticket products he
found it was best not to use pictures at all of a product
that, while it may be shipped on CD or whatever, is still
an EXPERIENCE, not a thing you cherish and enjoy
handling. His premise was that more people will read the
letter instead of jumping to conclusions based on the
    picture.

That said, I don't feel pictures of ebooks are all bad - they
do "dimensionalize" what the customer gets, psychologically.
I think it's a mistake to build your graphical presentation
around the idea that you "get" a book that isn't even
a real thing when you buy. Overemphasized, the intangibility
of the PDF becomes painfully obvious and one might
be tempted to think: "this guy wants me to pay him
    $40 for what?"

    Hi there,

There's a lot of different things
    holding this back.

Your best bet is to hire a pro
copywriter to give you a full
    critique. Such as Loren ^.

    Failing that, post this message
    in the copywriting section and
    you should get some tips.

One quick tip from me though -
the video in that area of the
page will kill you. If it's there,
    it needs to contain something
very specific, and it should run
    less than a minute.

    Anything more and you're prob
    hurting conversions.

As a total aside, the video didn't
play for me. I'm on firefox.

    Hope that helps

Thanks David. Actually, the video is not put together yet, so it is just an image. Though you are right I was just planning to make it a 30 second clip or so.

This is my dads book, and I am re-doing the page. The current one is at FailProofMarketing[dot]com which of course needed a lot of work.

I know it was looked at by many copywriters, and he does a lot of writing. I think the copy is great, I'm just worried about displaying everything correctly and making sure I don't throw anyone off.

I have bounced away from sales pages for simple errors in spelling and grammar. I don't know why but when I see those things on a sales page I run.

I also don't like superlong 30 page sales letters. I don't have time to read them.
