Best way to Monetize a Wallpaper site?

I have a very famous wallpaper website but I'm running short on ideas on how to monetize it. CPM ads are ok but no enough for the kind of traffic i'm getting.

any ideas are appreciated.

You might want to give more info about what you've tried in the past. It would save us time so we don't repeat what you've already thought of, and may give people ideas that could be tweaked and made to work for your situations.

I know what you're trying to say, but wallpaper sites work different to the normal niche sites we build lists from - You won't see many people signing up, you could do a special promotion on the site of giving 25 free wallpapers for an opt-in.

But what does the OP get from that? People who are willing to enter an email for some free wallpapers; I doubt they'd be quality buyers - all you really could promote is a CPA offer related to wallpapers.

@OP - I would recommend looking for banner advertising deals, you said it is famous and thus has a good amount of traffic; keep an eye out for people that want to advertise their banners on the site, try different IM forums

2 Strategies that you might want to implement is to start writing articles and start a blog. You could post information on your blog and direct your prospects to your articles that you submitted to the article directories.

I agree with Daniel. This is an impulse market (like ringtones) it's something you search for on a whim and then maybe never again. No one wants to join an email list for those kinds of items.

Yes, definitely skip building an email list... unless you advertise something with mass appeal that's a long term problem example: put up a banner about weight loss and send them to an opt-in page for your list...

Although, personally I would go with something like the CPA ringtone idea above - that seems to be more targeted to your audience

I would run CPA offers. Get your own adserver like openx so you can track the results of multiple banners. If you aren't a member of a cpa network, check out neverblue.com.

CPA all the way. They are full with wallpaper, smiley, facebook themes, glitters etc...offers. They actually also go pretty well. I would try those.

    Thanks for all your suggestions.

I currently have adsense and adbrite ads. My Adsense CTR's are horrible (0.01% -0.03%) and Adbrite pays much more by showing full page ads, but really with all the traffic it's peanuts. I have some cpa offers as well, but they haven't generated much.

I guess I'll have to keep testing, testing, testing!

You could try to attach a community forum to your wallpaper site. That would get more people to keep coming back and increase your options to monetize your site later.

    Re-cycle...

I haven't read all the responses here, so hopefully I'm not repeating someone else....

Perhaps you could ADD a resources/tools section, and have upwards of maybe 90% of your recommended "resources" be affiliate links that you could earn a commission on.

I know one particular blogger who earns nearly $2,000/month JUST from his resources section on his website. It's very non-intrusive, and people love the fact that the site owner values them enough that they would offer the links to products/services that they have actually tried and recommend.

Not entirely sure how you'll pull this off for Wallpaper, but, err....Home Depot/ Lowe's Affiliations or something like that?

Not sure what kind of wallpapers you have on your site, but why not add Amazon, eBay, etc. type links to your site.

For instance, if you have wallpapers of famous actors, add Amazon links to some of their DVDs.

If you have wallpapers of exotic sports cars, join the eBay Partner Network (can be difficult to get accepted) and link to auctions of those cars.

You can also check out sites like Commission Junction and see if they have affiliates that match some of the wallpapers that you have. For instance if you have WWE wrestler wallpapers, I think Commission Junction has an affiliate for a company that sells those huge posters that you can put on bedroom walls (can't remember the company name).

And what about T-Shirt affiliate programs? I guess the point is to find physical products that match your wallpapers and help sell them.

      Just some thoughts.
