Best Way to Promote Physical Products (like lighting fixtures)

Hello,

I'll make this short and sweet. What is the best way for me to promote products such as lighting fixtures or industrial equipment on the Internet? I've found a site that pays 8% commission with an average sale of $400 minimum. I've considered YouTube but I have no clue where to start there. Not to mention, no clue as to how to set up a web page to promote them. Any ideas? What would you guys do to promote something like this?

Thanks!

- Russ

It depends on whether you can find cost efficient ways to get prospects to a website and what the business paying you commissions will do for you.

Generally speaking with higher ticket items you pre-educate prospects on why they should buy by creating reports, articles, videos etc with a strong call to action

      For example
7 secrets to choosing the perfect lighting system for your business
7 secrets to choosing the perfect lighting system for your home

You would have to do some research to work out what kinds of information your prospects are looking for and what would persuade them to choose to buy the product you're promoting.

Then you use that content in multiple ways and drive people to that content on a website that has a strong call to action.

You could use SEO, article submission, video submission, pay per click etc etc. to target your prospects.

      Kindest regards,

        Exactly Andrew!

That is the point a whole lot of people miss.

As a marketer, before I consider anything else, I investigate if it will be possible to drive traffic to a website cost effectively. Wheather this is with SEO, PPC, Direct Respose etc, you must be able to REACH the target market.

Not sure about lightning fixtures specifically but my man Dan Brock has a free eBook on all kinds of physical product promotion. Check out his website:

I would explain even more myself but I'm way too lazy and sleepy right now.

Niche affiliate sites work well for this and they can be just a few pages if that's all you need to do for a limited range, or you can plan to build it out over time.

Just be sure to choose some good keywords and that you know how you are going to get your traffic?

I like using the old Chet Holmes Educational Marketing approach, but only when it actually makes sense. In all other cases, I am not as big of a fan of the "8 Secrets you Must Know!" approach.

An example where it DOES make sense is when there needs to be some education. I just bought some high stregth pesticide online a few days ago, and they had TONS of articles and videos on what you need, what to buy, and how to apply. That makes sense.

But light fixtures? I think what sells them is a good picture and a good description. And then getting that page ranked in the SERPS. I don't see people who are looking for instructions on how to hang a light fixture, being interested in buying one.....they probably have one already.

For those that don't already have their lighting fixtures, you could tell them which fixtures are appropriate for certain circumstances - craftwork, intimate dining, illuminating large areas etc - and help them make their choices accordingly. It's not just circumstances that differ, people do too - you could mention that high uplighters may not be ideal for elderly and infirm people if they don't want to be bothered by the job of cleaning out the dust and dead moths that accumulate frequently inside the shades... that kind of thing.

to promote these products, you need to create blogs sites in large number with data feeds provided by the merchant

let me explain, the affiliate program should have some datafeed(free or paying)
a datafeed is a piece of code that you can use to show up the item specification on your site

you need powerful automation tools to start with these

however as i read your post, may i ask why did you chose this products in the first place?

if you already decide that this will be the products you will promote, youtube is really good for furniture

there are also some others places where you can promote them, but if you have a classic approach, articles writing + getting backlinks to your content you should see a quick progress with a good seo strategy

    my 2 cents

Are you trying to sell an actual inventory of items, or are you doing affiliate sales for someone elses products?

I don't know diddly about selling lighting fixtures but am quite familiar with industrial equipment sales. This I can tell you with certainty...

You may have greater success if you focus on a certain segment of the industrial equipment market, rather than trying to be all things to all people. You might want to consider homing on just one product or one range of products, if that is feasible for you. This way you can test each individual market potential and build out a website over time by simply adding to your product array. Who knows? You might just be the next King of Sandblasters!

The advantages of targeting specific products are many, but the best one is this. Specific product types (depending upon what you chose to promote) will allow you to laser target your potential customers. Industrial equipment is one market where you will do much better if you go after the customers directly, rather than hoping that they find you on Youtube.

    Hope this helps.

Wow. That's some great advice. I'm still a little lost on all this IM stuff but with the things you all have recommended, I should be able to get something up and going pretty soon. I'm no webmaster so my site may have a sort of retro mid-'90s look to them or even an amateurish 8th grade look. We'll see. Thanks to everyone for their input. I'll put it all to great use!

Use a keyword analysis tool to find *buying* keywords for the physical product you want to sell and then optimize a website around these keywords. Buying-keywords are night-and-day different from informational keywords in terms of conversion rates so make sure you understand the difference.

An example would be "good lighting fixtures" (informational) vs. "good lighting fixtures under 50 dollars" (buying $$)

Write articles using your keywords, post to your website and get indexed by the search engines. A nice compliment to articles is videos showing how to use or install the product. Hope this helped!

Test some ads and keywords with adwords and fb marketing and see if there is a market and where that market is first. Then worry about building and testing an offer site. I can test a market with as little as $10 and know more from that $10 (an in a few days) then 10,000 people in that business can learn in years of doing it.

    1. Do the keyword research and some due diligence in order to find "lighting fixture" or "industrial equipment" that is selling well. The items should also be mildly competitive.

    2. Find forums and websites that currently discuss or sell the type products you finally decide to go with.

    3. Create a website/blog.

    4. I won't go into the specifics of marketing and promoting. You can find that all over the Warrior Forum.

Your initial research is the most important aspect. Get it right and the rest is relatively simple. Don't confuse simple with easy or no work required.
