** EDIT ** Site is back up. Well, I guess it's a big deal. The article is poorly
written but that's another thing altogether.

I guess astronomy buffs will get all pumped up over this but it's not
    exactly my idea of excitement.

Fair point ... I'll have a look around later for a better-written site to link to and edit my OP, if I can.

Ooh, astronomy is very exciting! I have a little telescope, it's surprising what you can see ...

As the saying goes: people who live in glass houses ... should draw the blinds pretty carefully before removing their pants. (That is what they say, isn't it?)

Well, nobody wants to get 'caught' in the blinds, so closing the blinds first is probably a good idea.

        Ok Alexa...

I like astronomy a lot, too. For years I've been meaning to get a really
cool telescope. I found this site online that sells incredible scopes. There
were some that are like mini observatory scopes. That was some years, ago,
        though.

Anyway, have some excellent links for you. You might already know about them.
But if not, you're in for a treat. At these sites, you learn how to classify things
like galaxies and other stuff. Then you're shown images and you classify them.
What you're doing is helping scientists because the amount of data they have
        is overwhelming.

First: http://www.galaxyzoo.org/ You can classify galaxies, etc. I have not
        done this one.

But I've done this next one alot. Really cool. I signed up for Solar Storm Watch.
And what I do is look at images taken from a satellite, don't remember the name,
and identify and measure solar storms either in real time or archive images. You
can also look at images and try to identify comets, solar particle hits on the
        satellite, and some other things.

I think it's really very cool because you're looking at the outer fringes of the
sun and it's really very close - or looks close. You have to check it out. It's
just cool to me because you're looking at space like you've never seen it before,
there are so many stars to see it's unbelievable. I do this when I have time. But
there have been times when I've spent hours measuring solar storms.

        Anyway, hope you like it.

Ooh, I love astronomy as well. I just recently moved onto a big lot w/ woods all around and no lights. It gets very dark out here at night.

One of my fondest memories as a kid was a time when my father woke me and my 2 brothers up in the middle of the night to lay out in the backyard and witness a meteor shower. I've been hooked ever since.

A "Saturn Uranus conjunction"? I'm not sure if I need an astronomer or a proctologist? Either way, I guess that explains the telescope.

Dont get me wrong, Jupiter going after Uranus (hehe) is pretty exciting. But the biggest event of 2010 is without a doubt the World Cup.

My birthday is on June 20th. Will be turning 22... But I could careless b/c I'm looking forward to the World Cup way more.

  • Loved the bit about Avatar being the highest grossing movie in 2010. Good to see this conjunction signalling such profound outcomes for all of mankind.
