As a newbie (still am a newbie) i purchased a domain name around the words make money (wont tell you exactly for now)

Should i bother building it? its only going to be one of those sites with recommendations on how to make money online, whether its via affiliate marketing or reselling physical products.

or is it simply a waste of time?

I have a domain of my own in the money making niche. It IS very competitive, so there's no point in SEO because chances are you're not going to get on the first page.

If you were to build it up and focus you time on article marketing as a way to drive traffic to the site as oppose to SEO, you may do well. SEO usually takes a lot of time, so devoting all your time to advertising your site through other methods could help.

My say is give it a try. Will also give you a good opportunity to work on driving traffic.

Do not give up before you even start. Work on this site for atleast 6 months, if you see the output then just multiply your efforts, that's it.

I feel that if you want to get started in that niche getting high up in the SERP's is going to be really hard. That doesn't mean you can't throw up something in your sig and start making posts on every webmaster board you can find...

Targeted traffic is just as good (sometimes better) than the holy grail of landing on the first page in google...

Why did you bother buying the domain name then?

You might not make a load of money from it. You will probably find it reeeeaaallllyyyy hard to get it ranked for the 'make money' keywords, but you'll learn a helluva lot by doing it anyway.

I would say go for it, but it sounds as though you've already decided it won't work and the fact that you're saying it's 'only' going to be a certain type of site, gives the impression that you weren't planning on making it anything special anyway. If that's the case, then yeah, it will definitely be a waste of time.

This niche is good although it's too competitive for a startup like you. I too would recommend you focus on article marketing to have that "chance" to get noticed by the search engines. It's the wisest way you could share your own value there.

It's definitely a waste of the money you spent on the domain if you don't build it.

I'd go ahead and throw some stuff up there, see how it pans out. What's the worst that can happen? You don't make money? Gee, that's what this domain is doing now.

If you are a newbie, it seems to me that you haven't make money, so why do you start with a make money niche?

    Doesn't make sense.

This could have been a pretty attractive niche if you have taken it a couple of years ago... but due to the scam sites people dont trust it anymore. But If you have vast experience and confident, you can try it.

I respectably disagree. If you have or can build
a decent list from your other ventures you can easily introduce them
to your "make money online niche".

However if you are a newbie like you say and have no potential list,
    then "lacraiger" is probably correct.

You probably should try another niche. Recommendation and how to make money is very competitive now unlike 1 - 2 years before.

My honest opinion is . . . . choose another niche, your domain probably only cost a few dollars so it's not that much of a waste. What would be a waste would be flogging for months to try to SEO in a niche that's the most saturated of them all. Take some time and find a less competetive niche, SEO that and you'll make some money.
