Noob seeking a little advice

First off, I would like to say that after browsing these forums for a couple days I've learned a lot about IM that I would've never dreamed of knowing.

You guys/girls seem really hepful and hearing your success stories make me want push forward and achieve my own success in the world of IM.

Now, even though ive learned a lot, maybe too much at first, ive decided to take make first step and get some practice by building a squidoo lens.

I have tried to set it up with information that I know a fair bit about and add some products that I feel are related to the subject.

The only problem is that I dont even know if I did a decent job putting it together or, most importantly, how to drive traffic to my lens.

This is just something im doing to get my feet wet until I can start my 30 Day Challenge on July 1st.

w w w dot squidoo dot com /the-real-truth-about-fat-loss-
(Sorry I cant post links yet)

Any insight or tips would be appreciated. Be brutally honest lol.

Thanks,

Don

    Hey!

You can´t base an entire campaign solely on a Squidoo lens .. If you´re serious you should always register a keyword relevant domain, it´s just ten bucks, at the most. Then build a landing/ squeeze page, then you can register a Squidoo lens, hubpages page, etc as a part of the package. What is it you´re going to market?

    Use the Google Keyword Tool:

    https://adwords.google.com/select/Ke...rceLegacy=true

Find keywords with good amount of EXACT searches (5k-30k) per month, and then check out the competition using something like Mozilla's Addon SEO Quake to check PR (page rank) of competitors.

    OR,

You can get keyword service here:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/warriors...-warriors.html

    Then go from there.

I highly recommend registering your own domain name at a place like namecheap, and get hosting through them as well. They also have 24/7 live online support.

If you want to get into that niche, you'll need more than a Squidoo lense. Squidoo is notorious for deleting affiliate marketing lenses, so you could lose all your work and traffic in a heartbeat.

Get a domain and build a blog or minisite, whichever you prefer. Have your Web 2.0 properties such as Squidoo point to your main site. Do some article marketing pointing to your main site. You'll have more success that way and don't risk losing all when something gets deleted.

You are in the right forum where there is a lot of information to help you get started in IM. You can have your own website filled with money generating programs or products and then promote them. Or you can even use your own blog to promote the products. As you do that you will gain your own ground.

    I agree with sbucciarel wholeheartedly.

Since you are new - some web 2.0 properties are Squidoo, Blogger, hubpages, Weebly to name a few. Use these FREE sites to point to your main site with YOUR own domain and hosting that you purchase. You can buy a domain at godaddy or namecheap for under 10 bucks and hosting should only cost 10 bucks or less per month.

At your hosting account you can create your own site (blog) using Wordpress. Lots of free tutorials online to show you how.

This should get you started and if you get hung up just come back here and ask for help.

Yeah, I third that too. There are many other great tools like awber, wordpress and etc. to assist you with your niches but yeah get a domain or landing page and get this going. Good luck!

Congratulations on taking some kind of action! Well done.

    Ok, about the lens.

Fix the typos (one in the headline to begin with).

Don't be afraid to add a relative video on the topic.

You can also go now and start a free blogger blog and you could add the RSS feed from it in a module.

I'm not sure the product you selected is the best one related to your specific topic. I would recommend finding a product that helps with calorie counting if you can find it (they do exist ).

To get traffic to the lens, you can create some more on related topics and link them together. You can go comment on other peoples lenses, and hand out some ratings. Do some bookmarking.

Make some friends on the squidoo community.

Now for some news you may not want to hear:

Word on the street is that Squidoo is cracking down on marketers. Your site is built on a web 2.0 property which is all fine and dandy, but the truth is you don't really have full control over that site. Someone from Squidoo could come up and take it away in an instant.

These properties are good IMO for driving traffic to a site you own - but I wouldn't rely on them too much for a campaign or spend too much time and effort driving traffic to those pages and creating articles linking to them as it is shaky ground.

As mentioned above, combine this site with some other sites and use them to support your primary site.

The nice thing is you can go in and change those links down the road and recreate a marketing funnel for yourself.

Also, I don't know what niche you are going to pursue for the 30DC - but the weight loss niche in general is highly competitive. If you can, I suggest you dive further into the niche and find a specific product that can get you rolling quicker. A product that maybe needs some reviews and is newer to the market. It doesn't have to be a digital product - and there are a lot of things out there that you can find if you dig deep. Not saying there is anything wrong with what you are promoting - but I think you can see success much sooner with something that may not have as much competition. I also know there are products out there that are more relative to your solution of managing calories (and they have nothing to do with exercise.)

I would point them out to you, but I've probably said too much already.

I'd like to thank you all very much for your advice. I will definitely take action on your suggestions.

BTW - Is there any possible way to practice building web pages with WP or whatever before I actually buy my domain and hosting?

wordpress.com is a free WP site of your own. The Features and Functionality being almost identical. You have just a little bit more room on your own server

@avenuegirl thank you for actually answering the mans question

I would suggest using Blogger if you are brand new. I know some others have already told you this, but Squidoo is rapidly deleting indexes in a variety of niches. A friend of mine just lost about 40 lenses because he had a few too many affiliate links on them.

I used blogger to start with, and actually still have some simple blogger review pages that bring in residual affiliate income on a weekly basis.

Once you get a little more advanced you will definitely want to get your own website, but to start with a free blogspot blog is a great way to go.

I can't say that I am a big fan of anything black hat, but if you are at least making good money with your black hat campaigns, then you can easily invest some cash into building sites and traffic. White hat is always the better long-term strategy IMO, so if you don't have the time to build and market sites yourself, then simply pay people to do it for you.

Anything in IM is about traffic. No traffic = no sales.

There's a ton of good methods in this forum, pick the one that vibes with you the most and run with it. Don't get stuck trying 100 methods half ass and not getting anywhere and discouraged.

Set a goal. Make your first $1. Then you see that man this is real! Then make 10$! Then 100$! On and on... Good luck
