I hope this isn't the wrong thread for this.

Will google recognize a .info domain as well as a .com domain.

Better than .info, and cheap as well, .org and .net, if you cannot go with .com.

This was already asked in another thread. You may want to search for it. There were many people on there that had .info sites in high ranked positions and making money. I have a .info that works fine for me. A .info that has relevant keywords is much better than a .com with no keywords.

From what I've read Google isn't as kind to .info domains due to the fact a lot of spam comes from them, however they CAN rank well.

IMO if you are creating a business website, you will want a .com - .net being the minimum. People remember .com more than .info so if you can get that; go for it.

However, if you plan on doing a flip or just using this as a mini niche site, you could go for a keyword populated info. If you're picking the .info simply to save money, don't - if the .com is available with the keywords you want I would take that right away.

They also aren't kind to .coms that have even more spam coming from them.

      Google on the bolded terms...

This does beg the question, have you ever searched for info on Noam Chomsky? How about regular expressions, roman coins or craft ideas? Maybe you've never needed to do some research to find out if New York was a sanctuary city or to find out something about New York transit. Oh, and have you thought about moving your money to a local bank before you go shopping on Black Friday?

From experience .com with keyword will rank far better than .info or .tv. You also have to think about how your end user sees the site. If you are trying to build an authority many people will not hold .info with the same reputation as they would if it was a .com.

If you are relying on it ranking and plan to use SEO as your main traffic source I wont use an info use any other GTLD including org or even get a com with a hyphen

Alternatively you could also specialise your website to the UK Canada or an other country and get a CCTLD

The suffix doesn't matter. The reason a .com equivalent tends to do better is because it will have been around for longer.

.info domains are ok, why not?
Most people put this question because they think this isn't a good extension, .com are more safe or something like this. This isn't real.
.info extensions are reliable and good like .com , .net .org or other TLD's.
The key to a good domain name is to be short and very easy to remember.

I have quite a few .info's that rank well and get good traffic. I think it depends on your purposes and how you're "scaling". By that, I mean how many of these things you're picking up.

I build a lot of niche sites and it was becoming cost-prohibitive to spend $100/week on domains - particularly if I was looking at used domains. I started slowly testing .info's and I have many that are some of my top sites.

Now, if I"m going to put my own product on a site or do a big promotion for someone else's product, I'll go for the .com or .net with the keyword targeting.

I have a few .info domains and these are both doing very well, the only ones i dont have are .biz and .tv these have never taken off in my mind. But i cannot see any reason why you cannot gain some good exposure using a .info that my take on it anyway.I have also just bought a .co domain Bet 888 | A Big welcome to www.bet888.co i thought that was a bit of a gamble to buy that one.

From my experience Yahoo honors .info's close to as much as .com's. Google on the other hand does not. But I still grab lots of page one rankings on Google for .info domains. Just takes more backlinking is all.

Honestly I think the only thing attractive about a .info is the price. Most places offer them for dirt cheap prices. You want to save a measly $8 (just your first year mind you) instead of going with a tried and true .com domain? Eight Dollars?

From my experience, (and everything else being equal) yahoo will rank your .info, just as it would a .com, .net or .org. On the other hand, if you are looking to rank in google and want your sites to rank with less backlinking, go with a .com, .net or .org.

Google and any other search engine rank info domains as well as any other domain extension.
If you have informational site why go for .org or net if you can get .info as that is perfect extension for informational website.

You do not get any special treatment from search engine if you have .com and neither you will get any less attention from sear engines if you have .info

.info is very good domain and if you have appropriate website for it then just go for it.

Not sure where you're getting your data on this as my findings (running close to 850 keyword campaigns at the moment) are that Google does treat .info domains as inferior to top level domains.

.org and .com's are definitely better if you can obtain them. However with the caffeine update, as long as the keyword is in the domain name, then you should rank well. I've recently out ranked .com's and .org's with .info's and .biz's.

there is nothing to do with google,

but .info does make people feel it is low profile then the famous .com

there is nothing good or bad, but thinking make it so...

when you buy a domain name, you can see the price are very different between .info & .com

so, the more popular , more expensive.....by the way, there is a new .co show up around internet. It seem famous as .com

I can only speak from personal experience. I buy a .info domain if I am not sure whether the website will succeed. A sort of "test bed".

I have recently started several following the success of my first few. I don't personally find it any harder to rank them than a .com domain.

As to them being cheap - yes, they are IF you know where to buy them cheaply. Some registrars charge a lot more for them.

For .co.uk domains I use a UK registrar called FreeParking. Their .co.uk domains are competitively priced, their .info domains are more expensive.

From an end-user perspective - well it depends who your end-user is. If you are putting up a mmo site then maybe it does sound less convincing than a .com. However, the general public are totally unaware of that. Mynicheinformationsite.info sounds as if it will give the visitor the information they are looking for.

With .vc or .hn you do not have to do any SEO at all then?

I am just talking from personal experience, applying proper SEO .info's always rank like any other domain.

If someone can send me a link where Google says that they treat .info's different than .com I would like to see that.

I've heard they can outrank .com's. I'll try and see if I'll get any results, I'll let you know.

I love the fact they are so cheap so I'm gonna buy a lot of them and register every low competition keyword. Great SEO optimized content and a few high quality backlinks should do the magic. See if I'll get any results.

It's not what extension a website has that counts, it's what's being presented on the website and what's linking to that website domain that matters.

All the talk about .info being shunned because of spam is crazy.

Why would any search engine favor one extension over the other for that reason when the spammers can purchase any extension they want. Unless there is some kind of members only VIP pass for spammers exclusively for .info domains.

In my personal experience I've found it noticeably more difficult to build traffic to a .info domain rather than a .com, .net, or .org.

So my rule of thumb is this.

I always go for an exact match domain. I look to see if the .com, .net, and .org domains are all gone.

If they are I look to see if any of them are ranking.

If they are ranking well I don't bother getting a .info as the competition is to steep. I look for another keyphrase to match instead.

If they're not ranking well then the door is open for me to come in with a .info domain and still rank well.

That's not a rule that's set in stone, but as I said, it's a rule of thumb that's worked for me.

I almost always buy .com domains. However, it depends how you're going to use it.

For cheap redirects when doing affiliate marketing, .info domains work great.

.info are only good for redirect domains like cpa sites or affiliate sites that u don't need to rank for but need a separate and unique domain and you cant beat the price..

One of my .info domains ranks number one in google for 2 of my chosen keyword terms. This site is making me around $200 a month right now. It's also a PR 3. I put quality content on it and it's in a small niche.

Google "raw maca" or "buy maca" to find it. Usually top 1-2 (after the paid stuff). By the way, it's the only .info up there for those terms.
