I don't even know where to begin

Hello everyone.

This is my first post but I've been reading and absorbing as much information as I can for awhile now.

However, I'm really just lost at where to begin. I operate an ecommerce site that I started last September. Over the months, I have crawled the rankings for 1 keyword. I began not being listed in Google to hovering around number 25. I also am around 15th for one keyword that I just recently began targeting that has minimal competition.

I've done little SEO for the 1st keyword. I've done some article marketing and that is about it. I have about 35 links according to Google.

I'm ranked within the first 5 results on Yahoo for both keywords.

I'm really just confused on where to begin to rank within the first few results of Google. There is just so much out there to choose from and I don't know which is best for an E-commerce site. I tried SENuke but because of the price tag, did not continue after 7 days.

Price isn't all that important as long as I get something with results. I would like to target other keywords once I can get these two ranked well.

Does anyone have any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, or experience that they can provide me?

Thanks for your time!

SEO is not my thing - I've been around the traffic exchanging community for a while, but maybe I'll learn some new things around here.

I agree. Just continue to learn as much as you can and put into use everything you learn. Don't ever stop learning and doing and it will come. Make sure your focus is on traffic don't get sidetracked with other aspects of your business. Continue to learn the best methods of generating traffic.

Just a bit of a warning since you are new... Beware of SEO services. They are typically run by failed webmasters. This is especially true for link building services, which usually just spam your site all over the place or submit your site to crappy directories that nobody goes to.

The most basic concept of SE ranking is that the higher the number of people who like your site, the higher you will rank. You can game the system to a certain extent, but it will be an ongoing process to maintain that position. Ranking higher legitimately through quality content is of course preferable since that brings both the long term traffic and the conversions.

    Hey thebuyfly,

You should start by learning the most basic concepts of SEO. That way, the ranking question will be out of the picture. A guide that I liked when I am starting out is Brad Callen's SEO Easy Way. It is a pretty old book but it explains pretty much everything. You can search it up on Google.

Also, the key to successful backlinking is to do it on a continuous basis. Putting in some effort then giving up will get you nowhere. Backlinking has some magic. You don't really feel that it is working but it does.

    Hi thebuyfly,

What I can suggest to you is to find a coach/mentor who is willing to help you and is experiencing in what you are trying to achieve. Together you can set a plan and stick to it until you start getting results.

As more often than not if you do not have a specific plan and someone to guide you along the way it is very easy to get distracted from the goals you want to achieve.

This is really good advice. It wasnt till I did this and stopped information overload in it's tracks that I was able to start moving towards making money.

There are tons of different methods to making money, find the one you want to use, then find someone who is succeeding and learn all you can about that one method. Once you have learnt all you can, proceed to start implimenting it and working you butt off because it's not easy when your first starting out but if you get the skills down then you'll be able to do it...

You need to take action as well as all the information in the world is of no use if you fail to act on it.

Success in IM boils down to

Find a method that makes you money, repeat and automate it.
    Then find more methods...

You already know what you need to know. Just do it.

How did you climb in the SERPs the first time? --> Getting backlinks through content distribution.

I don't know how your onpage SEO looks like, but I can guarantee you that enough backlinks can make up for almost any onpage SEO mistakes. Nevertheless, if you can grab any report on basic SEO, you will find all you are looking for.

If you have some money to invest, you can buy some SEO linking services. But make the due diligence before spending your money.

I would concentrate on learning SEO, or find a system that teaches you how to do everything step by step. Once you have a system to follow, you will learn how to do all the steps in the system, and that should help drive more traffic to your sites.

There are probably a thousand different ways to answer your question, but I would pick one SEO method to follow and stick with it!

Even though im a newbie to this game, the one thing that been drilled into my head from every single site i go to, is "just do it".

your not gonna learn a thing just contemplating, thinking, reading or ask questions. you will only learn once you start doing. even if you fail or it doesnt work, more on to the next thing. eventually everything will make sense and you will know what your doing.

Hi! In order to reap the desired results, the products you offer are very important. They should be ones that are in demand. Driving traffic to your website can be boosted by quality articles posted in your own website/blog and submitted to good article directories like ezinearticles, buzzle.com, articlebase, GoArticles, and others. By so doing you will be creating backlinks, which are very important for your ranking in search engines. Hope this helps. Good luck.
