Great headers~Do I have to buy Photoshop?

I have paint.net but I am not that great at using it, and I have heard there is also a steep learning curve with Photoshop.

What are you using to make headers? I'd love to learn to do my own and keep the price down, appreciate any suggestions.

If you're looking for something easy and pretty basic for headers, check out X-header Pro. It comes with a bunch of templates you can easily customize.

I use Photoshop and it has been working awesome for me.

I have heard that GIMP is a free alternative to photoshop but I haven't used it so you should try it out and decide for yourself

Gimp works great! I use if for all my headers on my niche blogs on my PLR site as well as custom sites for clients and I get rave reviews! I think it does most of the same stuff as photoshop but it's free.

      jenb,

I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0, which is a "mini" version of the full blown Adobe Photoshop program and only costs $40. I think there is a version 6.0 out now but not any more than $40. That is quite a bit cheaper than the full Photoshop program, which is close to $800!

You can make easy headers by taking in a photo sizing it to the header dimensions and inserting text on it and there you have a great header. All this is easy with Photoshop Elements.

You can go on youtube and search for videos on how to use Photoshop Elements to make a header or purchase Marlon Sanders, Design Dashboard (you can Google it for the URL) that covers video tutorials on how to use Photoshop Elements to make headers. It really is a great instructional series.

      Hope that helps!

It's free and you can do a lot of things with. Free tutos are also available.

Photoshop 7 can purchased pretty cheaply. You don't need the latest Photoshop CS. Take a look on Ebay.

I recommend learning the basics of Photoshop. It's a great program and you'll use it all the time. The cheaper Elements version should be enough.
