Hey, all you Flippa experts...

I have an adsense website that I established in Oct. 2007, that I would like to sell. I've read over Flippa, I've read over the threads on the WF, and I still have questions.

1.) My adsense revenue varies between around $125 and $185 a month. When I'm asked for revenue, do I just average out the last year of revenue? Or just sort of guesstimate?

2.) Does it help to list the website for a longer period of time - say, a couple of weeks?

3.) Is there a particular day of the week that is better to end an auction?

Do established adsense sites that sell here on the WF generate 6-10 months revenue? I see that a lot of people are unhappy with Flippa these days, and I've had great success with WSOs - but I have never tried to sell a site here.

    1) You have options to say it based on proof, and you can show your last 5 months of income, so people can "guesstimate" themselves.
    2) Haven't noticed.
    3) ? Don't think

Good plan, I will definitely post my monthly Google adsense earnings.

    1. When you list your auction, you can either enter an estimated monthly revenue figure, or the exact numbers for up to 12 months. The exact numbers are better than the estimated, which would usually be an average over x number of months, since people can see how it fluctuates.

I normally take a screenshot of the Adsense report, with the stuff that Google doesn't let you share blanked out, so people can see the actual numbers and post it up on my site somewhere, with a link in the Flippa auction.

    2. Not in my experience. I don't run mine any longer than 6 days, sometimes only 4 or 5. Typically the action comes on the first day or two, and then towards the end.

    3. Again, not in my experience. I try to avoid ending them on weekends, though. I find there isn't as much traffic on Flippa on the weekends.

The other issues with ending on a certain day is that Flippa automatically extends the auction if a bid comes in the last few hours. So it can wind up ending at a different time than you plan it to anyway. I've had auctions get extended by over 24 hours because every time there's a last minute bid, it gets extended again.

Very useful information, John, thank you! Do you find that it's a good idea to have a BIN price?

I don't use BIN prices in my auctions. I've made the mistake of UNDERvaluing a couple of sites this way, and left a bunch of money on the table. I let the market decide what the site is worth, rather than making the wrong decision myself

Better not to end on the weekend ...people are out playing around instead of on the Internet in the summer months.

I would just average the year in Adsense and show screenshots to prove Adsense income.

I wouldn't list it for any longer than 5 days. I would also not list it on Featured until the day before it ends. The last day is when you will probably get the most bids. A few may bid before then but if more than one bids and they realize they are starting a bidding war, they will stop bidding until the last day. A lot of "watchers" will also throw their bids in on the last day.

Using Featured listing gets a lot more views, but is a waste of money until the day before it ends.

Yes listen to sbucciarel, this alone can make a HUGE difference. The $40 or whatever it is now charge to feature your auction can make the difference between getting $1000-2000 more for your website.

Also be sure to include the average adsense income in your description. Such as "XYZ Site Autopilot Adsense Income $180/mo" or whatever.

    Thanks y'all!

I really think this is a great site, if I do say so myself, since I wrote all the articles on it and it was my first ever IM-type venture. I'm kind of sad to sell it, but since I've been able to set it up and have it pay out more than $100 a month without having touched it for well over two years...I'm hoping to take the money that I make selling it, and create a bunch more sites like it, let them age a little bit, and then sell off a few every month once they've started generating income.

So any tips that I can get to maximize my sales price are HIGHLY appreciated!

Incidentally, if anyone wants to know how I created a successful adsense site, it's this simple:

I researched high paying clicks - in this case - nursing school related clicks. I wanted clicks that paid around $1 or more each.
I wrote several dozen original articles and posted them on the website. 200-400 words each.
I wrote several dozen original articles for several different article marketing sites and linked back to my site.

And that is all. It took a few months to get going; I think the first month I made about $37, then for a couple of months I made about $70-plus, and my best month ever was $230-ish.

It was a fair amount of work up front, but it's been paying off for years now.

It sounds like you have a solid AdSense site for sale here. My entire blog is dedicated to helping people new and experienced with flipping websites on Flippa (see my signature).

John and Suzanne have given you some awesome advice - as well as others. I have made other posts on my blog that will answer many of the questions you have. I am going to provide links to them here. I have nothing to gain from these links. There is no AdSense on them and I'm not selling anything either. These are just blog posts with good information. Your info is absolutely golden! I sent you a PM. I think that what I will do is list my site for sale next Friday night and end it on a Wednesday - so I have time to get escrow.com set up and do some more research.

Would it make sense to disable my adsense during the auction, just so nobody can go mess with it? Or am I being overly paranoid?

I wouldn't worry about disabling adsense, just block out your CTR and your pub-id so no one can grab it (although if they really wanted it they could find it) I don't think you'll have a problem.

I've been using Flippa for 4 years (when it was just sitepoint forums) And I've grown quite weary of Flippa's junk. Make sure you stress in the auction title that the site requires zero work and that it has been a consistent earner for years without any updating. This will ensure the auction goes well over all the junk sites for sale.

If I were you I wouldn't accept anything less than 2500 or so but I haven't seen site/looked at the numbers but it sounds like a great gem for flippa!

    Good luck!

Make sure you are 100% sure you want to sell the site. As soon as you list a website, someone will immediately try to duplicate it. People really want to see Google Analytics and Adsense .pdf files.

That is a concern of mine, but on the other hand, what makes this site great is all of the well-written original content that I put on there, and the dozens of articles that I wrote for article directory sites, linking back to my site. And the fact that the site is three years old. THAT can't be duplicated.

Good idea on Google Analytics and Adsense PDF files. I will make sure that I have all of my info lined up for potential clients!

Don't worry about this. You have a 3-year old site with lots of original content. It will be impossible to duplicate. And even if someone tries to do this, who cares? Your site will be sold long before any knucklehead has a chance to "duplicate" your success - which I guarantee you nobody will be able to do anyway.

I got your PM and have responded to it. Please let me know when you list it. Good luck!

      Travis
