Well I can tell you the Twittersphere is rife with panic from all the paranoid SEOs out there. At the end of the fundementals for SEO stay the same, and this is not that different to drop down options they previously rolled out. I think Google is just trying for more personalization and they have incorporated the wonder wheel into search options.

Personally I think it is much ado about nothing

I think this could have a definite impact on search trends. Already Ive noticed that I become distracted when performing a search like...."fitted red baseball caps" ...I seem to go off on a tangent when something *else* catches my eye. Before Ive completed typing in my original search.

I certainly havent meant to, just natural tendencies. I guess comparible to youtube, when Im looking for google webmaster stuff and end up watching kittens playing bongos.

Funny that you should mention Youtube. Maybe it's just what I am typing into the search bar (and I'm really trying to hit many different types of terms, phrases etc) but I have not seen one video show up in the suggested results.
I know that instant search is similar to G suggest but with suggest I have seen videos.

Has anyone else noticed this or has it just been my particular searches?

SPEED - the world is moving at an incredibly
fast pace now and Google seems to be leading
the way. Getting instant results as you type,
hmmm, Reminds me of a movie when they
said "I have the need for SPEED".

I just hope this won't be confusing for some
    users.

I don't like it. I find it annoying. I am worried how it will affect long tail keywords.

Forgive me for saying this but I don't see any difference with Google. I typed in "fitted red baseball caps" and basically the results and drop downs look the same as they did yesterday.

Can someone fill me in please?

This might be great for us all. It will probably have an impact on long tail traffic, but I also think it could do this: cause people to search more. Why? Well, I tried it out a little last night, and it almost functioned as a bit of an idea generator for me. I ended up doing more searches than I had planned to do. Admittedly, I kinda got lost a little, but I still ended up on a good few sites that I never would have visited otherwise.

Google processes around 1 billion searches per day. As for me, I won't be complaining the day that number doubles.

As a user, I don't like it. It seems too "busy" or something I dunno. I've always liked Google because of it's simplicity - just a simple search bar that brings relevant results when I want. Now it's just an exercise of concentration trying to get your full search string out without getting distracted with all the crap that pops up.

        DO AUTO BOTS KNOW BEST?

With with all the automation in the IM world today, from auto mail to auto response, the recent launch of Google Instant has many people in the IM field wondering just what it means to them. The truth of the matter is, only time will reveal the real answer to that question.

Many of the concerns and cries of foul, of course, could be premature. Still it would be wise to keep a sharp eye on Google. The game stakes seem to have pitted adsense against adwords in ways that almost seem hyocritical to the commitments of content quality Google holds its paid advertisers to and the user satisfaction it boasts.

        On a side note:

We can be assured when we as humans reach a day we let our PC's think for us we have crossed a threshold of uncertainty.

        Has that day come? Perhaps.

However, one thing is certain in this writers humble opinion.. Those with keen eyes and sharp minds will move through this learning curve and on to new levels success never before imagined.

From an end user standpoint, I don't like it. All the flashing on the screen while I'm trying to type is distracting.

Google changes all the time and will continue changing.
I think the best way to protect yourself from these changes is to concentrate on good, original content - the Internet was build for content and information therefore it will always be the top priority of search engines.

      It can be turned off.

To be honest if Google keeps forcing their default searches on me I will be using Bahoo or Ying more.

I noticed that during 'Google's Instant' that some of my keywords ranking positions were quite messed up. Just curious if anyone one else experienced that. They have returned to normalcy though.
