Membership using tokens/credits?

I would like a membership system which grants credits each month for the member to spend on modules rather than drip feed specific units in an order.

Any suggestions?

Cool idea. Get a custom plugin made in wordpress that does it, then sell the plugin to other marketers using your membership site as a case study

I'd recommend against it. Look at the success of Microsoft points, versus Apple's App store. Any stage you put between people and the purchase will blunt your conversion rate.

In otherwords, I would make darn sure the benefits of the token systems are immense, otherwise you are just trying to reinvent the wheel and lose a lot of sales in the process.

      Steve,

You're right. But remember, Apple just might go with a credits-based or subscription-based, all-you-can-eat system at some point.

And Microsoft screws up almost everything. They can't get seem to get much right other than the X-box and Office. Vista, Zune, they had an affiliate network (forget the name, I was part of it), Windows ME, Frontpage, vBscript, .... But I digress :-)

I guess it mainly depends on what you're using the credits for.

For example, if you had a membership product where you have a lot of content, and you wanted to put the control of picking the "Topic of the month" in the hands of the users, then it can be a huge plus for your members.

So if you had 52 videos in your membership area, say, one on each topic - like domain registration, FTP, hosting. Now instead of you dictating in what order they will get the videos, and when, instead, you give them say 40 credits a month, and say each video has a redeem-value of 10 credits.

So with those 40 credits, they can now choose any 4 videos they want, when they want, and not have to wait for 3 months for you to get to the topic that interests them.

It may not be the best example, because in this case, you can have any number of arguments against it - but you get the point.

Think of it as the "Audible.com" model.

Just dole out credits - Silver 10 credits, Gold 20 credits, Platinum 50 credits, and the more they pay, the more they can "buy", so to speak.

    Hello,
I am using DAP and really enjoy using it, and while it takes some learning curves on my part (old dog learning new tricks), I do recommend it.

With that said, they have a new feature called "credits" which would enable me to offer credits for sale for the purchase of individual posts or letters in my case. ( I have a letter template site for churches).

It seems all the pieces are there for this to work, however, DAP is working on upgrades, etc., and I would like to implement this is as soon as possible on my site.

Anyone had any luck with setting up the credits feature? Or, know someone who would like to help me get it set up on my site at Church Letters for Pastors and Ministries - Church Letters for Ministries?

Also, any example sites using it now?

    Thanks,
    Norm
