What online thing would you invest a 6 figures amount into?

What I am leaning forward to is buying up established affiliate websites with stable income and room for improvement in niches where variety of advertisers and/or merchants is big enough to have a constant flow of good/new offers/products. Then add all the marketing pieces that are missing on the websites and let the websites flow somewhere in top 10 in that niche (considering they were somewhere below top 20 before that).

What would you invest this much money into right now or at least in the coming 2011?

how about a sport niche that has a crazy following like football or rugby or may be even cricket ( huge following in south Asian countries,Australia,England, and South Africa ) you can talk abou playes, fixtures, tournaments, scandals you can have coaching videos for sale, equipment for sale, you can have ebooks on teams(current team , team history etc...) ebooks on players for sale, interviews with players (if you can manage to get some ) memorabilia for sale, game tickets for sale youtube highlights of games etc.. and you can talk about a sport or a bunch of sport all year round there will always be content, always be fans and willing buyers !!!

Sports website was on my "from scratch todo list" 2 years ago. There is a ton of content I could put up, images, videos, whatnot, BUT...

...there is VERY little fan gear merchants or good advertisers for this type of readership.

When I saw there's only 1 solid fan gear merchant online with an affiliate program I said I will pass this niche.

What's the point of being a fan of a certain player (I gathered names of a few 1000 of them - all playing in top 5 sports in the US and EU) when you can't sell the people a shirt with his name on, heck even not a shirt with team's name and colors? That's just bad targeting all together. And what's a sports site without players? Sure you can sell a lot of other stuff like sports gear, but then, fan gear is just much better targeting and when you are disabled at that simply because clubs and leagues don't realize the power of affiliate marketing and want to sell stuff all on their own... then let them sell their stuff in their offline stores and let me move on.

You need to search for "blogpress seo" in google and you can get to there site.
Go piss in someone else's thread.

You can get started with your own Internet business for less than $30/month. With all the scams and get rich quick schemes in the internet I'd rather invest that 6 figure amount the traditional way.

That reads just like the get rich scheme

People trade domains. I find it over saturated, but then what do I know - I never did that. I just find domains is not the business it used to be where one could get a decent domain for his own use when today they are all parked.

Now what would you go after online?

i understand what you mean but from your reply it seems that there is enough demand but not enough supply right.but what if you can find one two offline sport shops and struck a deal with them. they ship the stuff for you and you get a commission to bring in the sale.same thing with coaching videos what if you can find a local sportsman to help you with the videos.as others mention you dont need to spend 6 grands on this.who knows the site might get really popular and you might end up having next amazon specializing in sports good luck

can there be not enough demand in sports? if there was as many people selling fan gear in sports online as there are people with their IM ebooks on this forum I would dig both my hands and my feet into it. but...

what you propose is a very risky game. I would rather see less risk, have more merchants that know how to exploit the forces that bring in the online sales and get a solid ROI, spread the risk across different niches, rather that putting it all on one horse and banking big or burning bad.

If it was mid 6 figures like $500,000 I'd look into ecommerce. Use around $200,000 for site development and marketing and branding and then the other $300,000 on stock.

Invest it in someone with experience that you trust to help you find the
best deal and not have the wool pulled over my eyes if I was not
    experienced.

I wouldn't invest that into websites. I would invest it in leads or sales being driven to my own products.

The websites can die off but the list is always yours.

Use that money to buy sales or leads from CPA networks. That's my vote. If you don't have any products PM me.

This sure is the best thing. There is really a HIGH amount of money you can spend at promoting your own product, buying in bulk, knowing the lifetime value of a customer, etc.

      But you need a product.

Now I have an idea for a product that is much needed today and seems to be even more needed tomorrow, but this would take time to develop.

      Will hit you up anyway.

    I would:

1> Build/outsource a web application that alot of people would find useful then charge a monthly fee to use.

2> Build/outsource a mobile application or game that is highly addictive and sell it in mobile app stores forr $0.99 to $1.99 just look at the angry birds app they've sold over 10 million of them.

Licensing might be one fast way to get a product.

Disclaimer: (the next sentence is totally self serving, but I view it as win, win.)

Partnering with someone who has the expertise to set up your business correctly and help you create a product line, funnel and connect to back end, high ticket coaching floors, would be a 2-4 mo process, and get you long term business results, not just the latest "shinny squirrel" to chase. I'm just say'n...

Buying an existing site is risky, as you may not have the ability to keep it earning as it has been in the past, and if it is a cash cow, the multiple that the owner should ask for it, would put it in a very high risk category for a new owner. With that said, if you have experience and can make improvements, and existing stable earner, could be grown to create an ROI for you, you will want to work with a reputable broker for the purchase, someone who has something to loose, so you don't get stuck.

I have a friend who makes a very good living in the CPA world, as an affiliate, but it has taken him a few years staying focused on his niche and growing his business. No "overnight" answers that I know of, good solid business plans and growth still work.

Please post again when you've picked what you are going to do, I for one would be very interested to know how you approach it, and how you divide up the start up expenses, ie. site/product purchase, development, consulting, marketing expenses etc...

    Good luck,

It seems to me that if I had that type of money to invest into a site ... I'd make a niche selection and then build it from scratch and spend a lot less than six figures.
