At the time of writing this ive had my 2nd sale (woo im rich...well not quite.) But anyway, i thought i would pass on a little of what ive noticed from my own experiences so far. Maybe someone else will pull some good information from it Things to Avoid:
Overextending yourself. (Information Overload)
There is a TON of great methods out there, which is why it is so easy to get sucked into this one, then that one, then that one. And so on to the point where you are so overwhelmed and confused you have no idea what your doing. If your at this point already, read these next words very carefully.
STOP BUYING.
See that?
STOP BUYING RIGHT NOW!
That's right. Quit buying a ton of reports and e-books, services you don't need etc. Your only feeding your information overload and decimating your wallet.
Corrective action to take:
Stop what your doing. Take a deep breath, and think long and hard about what it is you want to do. Got that thought in your head yet? If not, here's some options to consider;
Stick to Article writing / Blogging (On free sites, this will get you some passive sources out there. Depending on the method they can be fairly simplistic to keep operating once setup)
Focus on getting a website operational (more on this in the resources section) And yes, just ONE when that works try another one. But until then you need to focus like a laser on that ONE site.
Do freelance work. (Great for building confidence once you do a few gigs. And you are basically getting paid to learn!) Elance,Fiverr any of the multitude of sites out there that will let you showcase your skills.
Do a little more research (There's a TON of free information out there for you, just don't let that be ALL your doing. You wont make any money reading forums. But if you figure out how let me know : P)
#2 Assuming you cant make IM work.
If its only been a week, and your already ready to admit defeat. Maybe IM isn't for you, from what ive seen so far this business is all about patience. Patience and being willing keep at it, if something isn't working. Find out why, ask for help if you need to. But KEEP working and keep pushing yourself to take that next step. Eventually there will be a light at the end of that tunnel. As many people have said before this business is all about what YOU put into it. It will work as hard for you as you work for it. But only after you make an initial investment of time and perhaps frustration.
Corrective action to take:
This is a simple one, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and get back to work. That first sale will be all the more worth it when you get it, I know it was for me. I don't think I have ever felt more accomplished in my life then when I finally made my first sale recently. Just remember that nothing is instant, and keep your confidence and enthusiasm for your work up and you will succeed.
#3 Paying for a bunch of programs and services, and not knowing what to do with them.
Sounds a bit ridiculous doesn't it? Well, I did it. And I am sure I am not alone in doing so. In my first week I spent more money buying this, registering for that without a single thought what it would all add up to. After all, my new push button income would cover it right? .... right?
WRONG. Plain and simple, it wont work that way. Not for 99% of people on this planet. If your in that 1% then ignore what I have said and continue with what your doing. If your not however, pay attention to what your spending and where. There's really no reason to spend much of anything, there is plenty of free services out there that can help you out a lot more when your starting out.
Not because they are easier, or offer a better final result. But because it fuels your understanding of how this all works. Once your making money please, by all means start automating some of your process. But until then take the time, use the free methods and learn how it all goes together. You will be all the better for it I promise.
Examples of things I did wrong in this:
Jumped right into website building, that's fine if you know what your doing. But if you do not have a clue like I did, its wise to be a little more circumspect, at least at first. Its not an uncorrectable problem if you do this, but it can be bad financially in a hurry if your getting into this on an already limited budget.
Paid for services just because the book I was currently reading recommended them. Then promptly not using them, either due to lack of knowledge. Or forgetting that you had done so in the frenzy of it all. None of which helps you at all.
Jumped into PPC advertising without a plan or enough research to actually do so properly. Let me just say, this was probably the worst idea of the lot. The money invested vanished quickly and I saw nothing from it at all.
Now mind you, just because I did these things and it turned out abysmally bad. Doesn't mean you cant have the odd success jumping in and giving something a try. In fact I encourage it to a degree since it DID help me understand how things work. Albeit slowly and at the expense of money I couldn't afford to lose. Please keep in mind I am not trying to scare you if your just starting out. I am just hoping to both caution you against the easy ways to hinder your own progress, and show you ways around it.
But, thats enough ranting out of me lol. If nothing else i hope at least one person reads this post and gets some kind of positive effect from it. This has all been said many many times, by people far more eloquent then me, but it bears repeating.
And yes, everything i mention going wrong for me really DID happen. Ive only just now started to see any kind of turnaround but it can happen. But if i can turn it around, anyone can.
Good luck in your future endevors!
