Using a Sub Domian as a Main Domain

I'm setting up a new website for a micro niche in the computer maintenance market and I'm using Market Samurai to carry out my research especially into keywords.

My main domain is currently ranking at number 4 on page one of Yahoo and my sub-domain is at position 8 page 1 in Google but I'm not getting much traffic from either of these pages. My data from Market Samurai is:

My main domain (crc):

Page 1 position 4 in Yahoo
Backlinks 32
PR 0
Daily searches 118
SEOT 49
PBR 67%
SEOC 30,400
SEOV £178.91

My sub-domain (nsoc):
Page 1 position 8 in Google
Backlinks 0
PR 0
Daily searches 891
SEOT 374
PBR 30%
SEOC 18,400
SEOV £71.10

Anyway, to avoid wasting all my hard work I decided to keep the website in place and promote it with some other keywords which I'm now using for my sub domain as listed above and which attract better traffic. I will eventually set this up as my main domain but I wanted to test it out in this way first before going to any expense or starting all over with a new website and URL, backlinks, etc.

Is this a good idea?i.e. would you say that this niche is still worth the long term investment to get the ranking for exact (75 searches/day), phrase (112 searches/day) and broad (374 searches/day) matches or should I forget it and look for some other keyword in the computer market that will make me money - any suggestions gratefully received!!

Could you also comment on the stats for my sub domain please?

Also, if this idea is a no go do you have any suggestions for a quick start sure fire niche I could research so I can start making some money real soon!!

Many, many thanks Warriors and keep up all the good work.

Regards, Kevin Walker.
